If we arent going help Muzzin why bother spending assets

Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2022
Published: Feb. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Most of the usual additions on here are absolutely players who would be carried by Muzzin if they took Holl's spot. Many may not be an improvement at all, since they are slow, bad puck movers, but they hit sometimes so that's a draw for some. If we aren't going to someone to take pressure off Muzzin, why bother at all?
Trades
1.
PHI
  1. Ritchie, Nick
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
The 2nd is to get retainment on Braun and the rest is just contract swaps to give Philly room to add prospects when moving Giroux.
2.
TOR
  1. Klingberg, John ($2,125,000 retained)
DAL
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. Robertson, Nicholas

Honestly, I think next year is going to be a step back year for TO. Still a playoff team but likely not as strong as they are this year.

TO probably will make some moves (Muzzin or otherwise) to stay in the top 5ish of the league. Dubas is on the same rope as Matthews contract. If they don't win by then I can see AM34 walking and GMKD being let go. KD will do everything in his power and spend all the assets he can to remain in the top while he has Matthews under contract.

Honestly I like the first trade. Not convinced Klingberg is the answer though. I’d rather spend those assets and Severson since he was term, and I think he’d be a slightly better fit.

I am not so sure, taking 2 extra contracts has big value to Philly and they may like Ritchie there. He's not without value, he just doesn't fit TO at all.

I think they will do better in the playoffs than people want (the haters are desperate to see then fail) and after that I think some of this anti leaf nonsense will die down.

He is very good as well and a better long term move but it's a lot harder to make work and will cost more.

Add another second round pick to that deal and it's probably enough to get Severson 50% retained, I would think.

I could be wrong, there's that one devils fan on here who think Severson (50% retained) will cost Neimela, Knies and a first round pick. But that's just my thoughts.

He passed through because no one wanted to add him without getting something in return. Opening up contract slots is not without value.

assuming they get two players back in a giroux deal (a prospect and a roster player for cap), they only need to clear one space and that'll be them dealing braun for a pick. plus the prospect very well might be behrens or helleson who haven't signed yet in which case just giroux is enough. it's not valuable enough to be worth taking on ritchie without an added asset IMO

Flyers say no. Braun alone is worth a second and Brassard a 3rd-4th. If we are taking Ritchie it should be a 2nd and a 3rd

Brassard has no value. Philly apparently wants to get rid of some contracts and has interest in Ritchie. Braun isn't worth a 2nd. He's a 34 year old 6/7 defenceman.

He’s viewed universally as worth a 2nd and Brassard has played top 6 and look well and will serve well on your third line

On a bad team!!! Brassard would be battling Brooks for the 13th forward position and Bruan would be the 7/8th defenceman in TO. Being ok on a bad team doesn't make you great on a good team.

He was over a half point a game player at the start of the season when the Flyers weren’t bad. If you don’t want to pay the proper price for them then no deal
