Crazy Deadline

Created by: tstrauss16
Team: 2021-22 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2022
Published: Feb. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just imagine this team in the playoffs. That’s a deep offense and a pretty deep defense for the most part. Mikkola with less responsibility might be dominant behind Graves. This team I think has a shot against someone like COL or VGK

What do you think a fair extension is for Hertl?

He's going to get around 8.5. the thing holding up negotiations in SJ now is term. Hertl wants long term.

I wonder if he stays a Shark at deadline. I’d love to have him on the Blues, I’m sure we’d have to trade Tarasenko this next offseason to afford resigning him then

Hertl recently said he wants to be a Shark his whole career but I don't think the sharks want to give maximum term. We'll see what happens but it's say 70% chance he stays in San Jose

He has said he wants to stay but he wants to win above everything else. The sharks are giving the lip service if they want him and going to offer him a contract later but they aren’t going to want to hand out another 8 year deal. I think it’s 75% chance he’s moved at this point. They can’t afford to lose him for nothing.

Too much for Graves, and Hertl ain;t happening because we cannot afford to re-sign him. But sure, it would be splendiferous. Once.

I'm not sold on this for Hertl.
I like Perron but if we trade Hertl its to go full rebuild and he densest fit into that.
Perunovich's offense would be welcome on the left side of our D but we already are deploying multiple sub 6' Defense-men. and if we don't reach an agreement with Hertl I would hope for a top C prospect or top RD prospect and a 1st.

Is the team better sure
Is the Hertl deal worth it nah
Perron will resign in stl for cheap I feel and Scotty P will be good in future I think if graves is brought in then Walman will be shipped out and the third pair will rotate between Bortz Mikkola and Scotty

No shot. Expiring UFA Perron, and a D-Man that has to be heavily sheltered (80% OZ starts) to survive in the NHL. The 1st round pick is about the only part of the package that is remotely enticing...

Perron could/should be re-signed and wouldn't be terribly expensive as a stop gap in the top six. Perunovich has excellent offensive upside and last I checked the only offensive LD we have in the system is Kniazev who is almost certainly going to be a long-term project. Don't know what you're expecting to get out of Hertl as a rental but it's not going to get much better than this, this is very plain to understand.

Except the deal makes zero sense for the Blues. We have no cap to extend Hertl. So why would we swap two UFA's when it costs us 1.6 more mill in cap, give up a 1st, and lose a future in Perunovich. The deal makes no sense for either team but makes even less sense for the Blues
