They can buy they shouldn't.

Kadri is rocking an insane on ice shooting percentage that will regress. Signing him to a contract based off this year is a foolish move you're better off letting another GM do

Don't think he got a fair shot with the Blues and he had no help on the back end to help his progression. He should have been a lot better.

Probably not with Mackinnon, Newhook, and Byram coming up the following year. Plus they'll need a goalie. Unless everyone takes pretty severe discounts.

If I am the Avalanche, and they are a team I love, right behind the Leafs, I would consider Justin Barron untouchable, even perhaps more so than Bowen Byram. With money being spent left, right and center to lock up players over the next couple seasons, including that really great dude the Avs got, you need a solid piece on your back end still on an ELC deal over that time frame. Provided the Avs can make upgrades without parting with either Byram or Barron (or Helleckson, who I like as well), that's a pretty nice looking young D corp their for the Avs to go along with Makar, Toews and Girard.

With respect to Kadri, his change in agent tells me he will absolutely be testing the UFA market. I imagine his AAV number to get him signed will start with an 8, and likely be at least, if not more than $8.5 million over at least a 6 year term. It also wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him either end of in Seattle, who have considerable cap space to burn and coming off an expansion draft that was heavily criticized OR one of the California teams.

Due to Johnson's M NTC, don't think he can be traded that will take on his 6m or even 4.5m contract.
For next year and the future, the Avs likely can't afford Kadri. Five years is too much term for Kadri.
And I disagree with giving up so many futures for Giroux.

Too much for Giroux. Blues won't want EJ and that's if he doesn't block the trade. The Avs can afford Kadri but they shouldn't unless it's a hell of a team friendly deal which according to his agent it won't be, Then there's the re-signings of MacK, Newhook and Byram to consider plus others to sign and fit in. It'd be a bad idea to spend it all on Kadri.

Unless Kadri takes a team-friendly 1-year deal, we shouldn't even consider re-signing him. MacKinnon, Newhook, and Byram are of top-priority.
