Islanders will take those cap dumps and the second for future considerations if you’re lucky

these Mayfield proposals from TML fans keep getting more and more convoluted, with Nick Ritchie now showing up and the picks somehow getting worse as we get closer to the deadline?

if Mayfield moves, it's straight up for a 1st, or for a 2/3 & a solid prospect. if you don't like the price, don't trade for him! the islanders are going to try and contend next year and a right-shot dman who can slide up to top pair and hold their own for $1.45M is too valuable an asset to flip out for Nick Ritchie, a 2nd&3rd, and your 8th defenseman. the value doesn't line up and it never will. stop trying to trade for mayfield.

Dermott brings something the Isles lack. Puck movement on the left side on the back end. On top of that he’s 25. The reason he’s our 7th dman is that He’s passed on the depth charts by Sandin, Muzzin and Riley.

Also Nick Ritchie play the exact style Trotz wants in NYI. Again good player just doesn’t fit the Toronto system which is speed based and would fit better in NYI which is more dump and chase based.

Furthermore Mayfield is passed on the depth charts by Dobson and when Pulock comes back he’ll be a bottom pairing dman.

Arizona took Ladd a significantly worse contract for 2 2nds and a 3rd. Y’all are getting NHL quality players that can make a deep team…

Isles have so many bottom 6, 4th line forwards Ritchie would never dress.

If Mayfield is 3rd pairing on the team next year that would be great. Dermott is not of interest though as Isles will look to add a LD in UFA and also have Salo who looked very good when called up this year.

Dermott is a 7th defenseman on Toronto because he's just not that good. you can actually draw a very strong corollary - both Dermott & Mayfield have typically slotted in as 3rd pair D this season but have had time with their team's nominal top defensemen (Morgan Rielly & Adam Pelech, respectively.) When Mayfield plays with Pelech-which he has for more than half his even strength ice time this season - Pelech's numbers stay pretty good and in line with what he's done with his usual RD1 partner in the past (50.4% of shots/chances and outscoring teams 23-14 with Mayfield this year; 53% and 37-24 with Pulock last year). Rielly, meanwhile, sees big drops in his possession numbers when Dermott steps in for his usual partner TJ Brodie - shots drop from 52.8% to 47.5%, chances from 52.8% to 43.5%(!), and goals from a 33-23 advantage to a 5-5 deadlock. All that combined with the fact that both have another year of team control for basically the same money means that Toronto is going to have to give up an asset to upgrade from Dermott to Mayfield - most ACGMs usually put the value at a 2nd.

The Islanders already have a Nick Ritchie at home (several, if you want to be honest). Adding another 4th liner with an inflated AAV is not something they should be looking to do. You've built a trade where the Islanders get the lesser player, a bad contract, and two picks around the 50 & 80 range. It's not gonna happen.
