Garland and McCann

Created by: ClockReads2113
Team: 2021-22 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2022
Published: Feb. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Caps really need some speed. Garland and McCann add that and more. This would be a very deep team for years. Trade Eller in the summer and bring in McMichael.
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. 2022 5th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
ARI gets a good depth defensemen that they can eat half of and flip.
ARI
  1. Kempný, Michal
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (WSH)
2.
WSH
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Schultz can go to any competitive team needing RHD depth. He's a good #4 puck mover that can QB a PP. I picked NSH b/c they are weak on the RHD and currently have Ekholm running their 2nd unit PP. Schultz would be an upgrade.

But he can go to any team, doesn't need to be NSH.
3.
BUF
  1. 2022 6th round pick (WSH)
4.
WSH
  1. Garland, Conor
Additional Details:
I'm using the Toffoli trade as an example: 1st+5th+4th liner+B prospect. Instead of doing a 4th liner and B prospect, I just added Pilon who is NHL top 9 ready. Very skilled, quick forward that plays any position. Caps have no room for him. He can instantly help Vancouver.

If you think Caps should add more then that's fine but it won't be anything major (ie high pick or A prospect).
VAN
  1. Pilon, Garrett
  2. 2022 1st round pick (WSH)
  3. 2022 5th round pick (WSH)
5.
WSH
  1. McCann, Jared
Additional Details:
I'd hate to trade Sprong and Lapierre but it's the price that will have to be paid. Sprong should thrive in SEA with top 6 time. Lap is going to be a very good playmaking top 6 center and should be NHL ready next season. Hags is overpaid but still a high end 4th liner.

If you think Caps should add more then that's fine but it won't be anything major (ie high pick or A prospect).

I don’t think Canucks fans will like the fact that you’re literally sending them a Pilon lol. But I’m sure they will all say “Carlson or no deal” 😂

I think we would have to pay more for garland. Also send eller away and get a better 3c that could finish

Its just so hard for Caps to trade for anyone that has term. They barely have enough money to sign their goalies next year let alone add any player to their cap. Moving Ellers and Hagelin only frees up around 6mil and Garland plus McCann will be around 9-10mil.

Since Garland has term, how would you feel about McMichael + a little bit?

Depends on if they want to keep Miller or not, I suppose. Like I said, Caps can add, just wouldn't be anything crazy high.

Don't know if Caps want to give him up. Maybe Lapierre, another A prospect. Going to be hard enough to find McM space, let along Lapierre as well.

I think it will be crazy high is the issue, we aren't really looking to move a big fish, more so guys like perason, dickinson, hamonic ect, they like the core and big fishes already don't see a move unless it's like a 1st plus a blue chip imho

I've done the math and signing him McCann to a $4.5M deal long term would work. Just depends what you want to spend on goalie. It's enough to get Sammy and VV signed, but if you want something bigger it will be an issue.

Ah Jimmy wasn't that bad either tbh lol lots of our issues had been from coaching the fact we are only 5 points out of a playoff spot is kind of a miracle tbh

Third for Schultz seems fair. Nashville doesn’t want him though. Our powerplay is doing well and Schultz isn’t worth pressboxing one of our young dmen for (Fabbro and carrier) and Schultz isn’t the kind of dman that Hynes wants on the third pairing so ultimately I don’t think he’d be used.

i would think Sammy at least would get the Demko deal at 5mil if not closer to 6.

He would have to go on a tear to end the season and into the playoffs to get that deal... and I hope he does!

Nashville declines. The problem is that Nashville doesnt need RHD, because people dont know who they are, and they are so under rated. Fabbro and Carriere are great top 4 defenders, while Benning complements them by being on the 3rd pair. Oh? and don't forget, who was the sweetner that came over in the Ryan Ellis trade?...

If you guessed Philippe Myers, you are indeed correct.

So the use for Justin Schultz in Nashville may sound great, but what Nashville got right now is pretty good. Not to mention, Nashville probably gets the most production out of their defenceman than most teams in the league.
Good assessment though!

moving McM isnt worth picking up Garland... maybe if he was producing like Miller w that contract + term but hes not ... unfortunately Garland has extremely similar production to Sheary.

22p in 41 gp 50.48CF% 51.19FF% 50.81xgf%

Garland is slightly better but Sheary cost like 3million less... i wouldnt want to trade McM + even Lappy would be a lot for for a guy thats barely better than Sheary smile sorry. Maybe swap MAntha + 2nd?

garland however is a 5x5 point machine so we would have upside if he was on a PP1(not sure if thats would be the case on WSH)

I like Sheary but Garland is so much better. He's a legit top 6, maybe top line player. Sheary is a good supporting top 9 player. Still good, but not Garland good. Then the flip side of that is Mantha is better than Garland so I wouldn't trade him for Garland.

i think this is a grass is greener situation. imo Garland is better but he's not THAT big of an improvement of sheary that im willing to blow 3+m in cap and dish out a high end prospect + 1st. NOW if it was Miller signed to that deal ($$ + term) ALLL DAY. garland is a glorified Sheary imo. IF garland isnt bettert han Mantha where does he fit into the lineup next year?

ovi
mantha
Wilson
Oshie
Sheary
Snives
McM
Lappy
Protas
AJF
Sprong

hes good but do you wanrt to pay a guy 4+ million to play 3rd line? or do you move Oshie down and now we have a 5+ million on the 3rd line hindering Oshie who IMO is better than Garland
