As a Caps fan I'd make that deal IF Hertl signs an extension.

Sharks turn down that Dallas trade. I keep saying it; Viel-Weatherby-Raska is going to be one of the best 4th lines in the NHL in a couple years. We just need to be patient and let them grow.

Wings have no need for Bonino.

Can we realistically afford a Hertl extension? It won't leave a lot of money to find a goalie and secure Fehervary, Orlov and/or Jensen.

It will be tight but doable.

In a Cap World Bonino at over 2 million counts as "negative value", meaning if a non playoff team were to acquire him, assets would have to be included. If you want Detroit (or another team with Cap space) to take Bonino, you would have to send that team an incentive to do so.

I just can't imagine a world where we do this and have a shot moving forward with the rest of Ovi's career. I love Hertl as a player, but the direction we're going leads me to think we're better off keeping Lapierre and the picks and injecting the youth over the next two years

i like those guys too, but 4th line is the easiest to piece together, guys like Cogliano Bonino Viel are usually available in FA every year and with an extra 2,3,& 4 we easily could redraft 4th line players
honestly I was going to say Washington and Dallas decline but washington fans seem ok so maybe i’m wrong.

Not against that either. Maybe the best way forward is not trading for Hertl and if he's available in the summer go get him so we don't have to spend assets.

As much as I wish we could, you can't just cram a bunch of low-tier assets together and expect a good prospect and a 2nd
