i think colorado would accept that trade, they might need to move more cap out if they aren't making any more moves though.
also i would love to see jost as your starting center

I think the only way the Oilers take that deal is if there is retention, or if the Flyers take on Koskinen instead of Turris...

With Couturier and Hayes injured Jost would be #1 or #2 considering Laughton. Not a good situation for the rest of this season but I like the look for next year. If you need to move more cap out the Flyers would be interested in adding Ryan Murray to the deal.

Lots of lateral moves here. Nothing looks like it really helps the Flyers

Not immediately. But it improves their prospect pool and their salary cap situation. The Flyers will be younger and a faster skating hockey team. They can make more moves in the summer to improve the roster as well.

Keep Turris in the deal and include Koskinen.

In a perfect world that would be the move, and really free up cap space for Edmonton to acquire another piece on the backend, but I doubt Philly takes on both without Edmonton paying a bit more whether it be the prospect portion or the pick....

I could see the Flyers asking for the 4th round pick to be upgraded to a 3rd because of the expense. Ultimately, they should be happy to get a draft pick and getting to see a veteran center like Turris play with some young players.

Behrens is a freshman point per game d-man for DU, his value is on the rise and will only increase. I don't think Sakic will trade him based on his potential alone, maybe throw in Barrons or Helleson, maybe a pick and another forward prospect.

I just don't think NSH is in a position to give up multiple picks for a guy they won't re-sign-- especially one that would be playing on their 3rd d-pair.

Fair enough. But some team in the playoffs will add him for about this price. It's more than reasonable for even a 3rd pair defenseman.

Rumor has it that while Smith was on LTIR and Koskinen struggling, the Oilers offered a 5th or 6th round pick for Jones. At this point, I suspect the window of opportunity for a deal is closing. Ken Holland's gamble has been on Mike Smith's health and Koskinen's ability to back Smith up. The results of that bet speak for themselves, and in my mind the best answer is a third veteran goaltender rather than moving Koskinen. However, the Oilers are right up against the salary cap and will need to move a contract in order to take on another one. Under the circumstances, they are going to be hard pressed to address just one of their needs and so are likely to lean toward acquiring that defenseman and continuing the gamble on Smith staying healthy. I suspect Holland is looking for a buyer for Tyson Barrie, perhaps Devin Shore, and maybe Slater Koekkoek. I think those are three contracts that are moveable because each guy is now redundant in Edmonton and the salaries are commensurate with the talent and skills of the players.

So what does the deal look like in your opinion since you just added 3 pieces and only removed Behrens?

Well, I didn't "add 3 pieces." I made suggestions as a replacement for Behrens. Maybe Bowers, Jost, Barron and a third. Or, Kaut, Jost, Helleson. Many options are better than including Behrens.

I think a 2nd+ is too much to pay for a 3rd pair rental.

Not one that can fill in on the 2nd pair as well. The role Risto is not designed for is first pair. He's made that clear. In the short time he's been able to be a 2nd pair defenseman in Philly, he's played very well. Unfortunately Ellis' injury has caused the Flyers to ask too much of him. Even then, he's not the Flyers problem. The loss of two top centers for pretty much the season along with Ellis and a terrible 3rd pair are really the Flyers problems.

Okay, your first post wasn't real clear what was happening. I think the Flyers are on board with a deal frame work that revolves around Bowers, Jost, and Colorado's choice of Helleson, Barron, or Behrens. You are one of the few Colorado fans that seems to want Barron or Helleson included over Behrens. The logic is that Behrens is more easily replaceable as a LHD opposed to the other two who are RHD. The Flyers would absolutely prefer one of the RHD.

Would Edmonton be trading Barrie at the trade deadline or in the offseason? What would you want for him?

I suppose that is dependent on what they are offered. Barrie represents pretty good value to any team that is lacking a scoring punch from its blue line, or needs a right-handed QB for its power play. However, while his $4.5M cap hit is pretty reasonable, most serious playoff contenders either don't have a need, or they don't have cap space. There may be non-playoff teams willing to acquire him before the TDL, but dealing with one of those team may not optimize the return the Oilers receive. Despite the opinions of some fans, moving Barrie is not a cap dump, so I expect that the oilers are most likely to try moving him in the summer.

You're not quite aware of the difference between Helleson/Barron and Behrens other than their handedness. He's a freshman point-per-game player for the #2/3 team in the nation - if he continues this performance into his sophomore year and beyond, he's a perennial Hobey Baker candidate meaning his value is a lot higher than getting an aging rental player. Personally, I would offer Helm, Murrey and a sixth-round pick for a player that wouldn't even be top-5 in points on the current avs roster. We don't need him so why would we overpay for him?
