DeBrusk's qualifying offer would be a big problem for the Oilers.

if they were to clear barrie's cap and then also drop koskinen in ufa they would be fine wouldn't they?

i contracts i believe could come off the books so they can resign debrusk, pulji, yammamoto are barrie, kassian, kane and koskinen

debrusk's QO again only matters for 1 yr contracts people take the QO as way to big of a factor considering edmonton is his hometown and his dad works for the oilers im sure he would take a deal around 3.5-3.6 for like 3-4 years

Maybe the Bruins shouldn't be trading a years worth of picks and more just to get Foegele with some controllable years. Maybe it's a year to suck it up and go with their current group, and realize they probably aren't good enough this year.

Well, using your logic:

If the Oilers trade Foegele for DeBrusk they are taking on $900k more in their middle six forwards now, and potentially $1.7M more next season.

Trading away Barrie and Kassian will likely require contracts coming back to the Oilers. Even if it doesn't, the Oilers will need to replace both of those guys. Replacing Barrie isn't going to save much cap space, and may actually cost more because the Oilers need a top-4 RD. Its possible to save a fair amount on Kassian's contract though.

Allowing Koskinen and Kane to walk will also save money, but the Oilers will need to find another top six forward and a backup goaltender. Any savings in net will be easily eclipsed by the cost of that new top-six forward.

DeBrusk might forego a qualifying offer and accept a team-friendly deal, but that would be pretty much without precedent for Edmonton. Mike Comrie is a good example of a hometown guy who Edmonton attempted to lock into a hometown discount. That did not turn out well.
