Who It Should Be

Created by: A_K
Team: 2021-22 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 18, 2022
Published: Feb. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just read the Athletic article about 5 LHD options and they all have their caveats...

Giordano - expensive for 38 yr old
Chiarot - bad at hockey
Lindholm - probably not available
Chara - maybe 3 yrs ago
Chychrun - guts the pool entirely

...So I keep going back to a potential sleeper / out of the blue option

Soucy - extra year, fair contract, lower acquisition cost, younger than the other options

I wonder if Seattle would make him available? I know he's considered more of a 'bottom 4' option but I think he could handle himself on the 2nd pair and maybe take over some PK time.

As an aside, zero pts in the last 9 games, is the Barby heater officially over? Might be time to add some new blood into the top9. Not saying the forwards are an issue, just a thought for a spark. The last handful of games have been boring af for the most part.

Scandella LTIR, has the same back issue as Mark Stone, it flares up when they're in cap trouble :)

OMG I obviously want no part of that article. And I agree 100%. Soucy is probably the best choice of all, all things considered.

As for Barby, I'm far more concerned about Kyrou right now. He's been a shadow of himself since the ASG. I get the feeling he has a nagging injury.

Lots of team would want in on Soucy. I can see Blues being one of the favorites.

True, Kyrou hasn't been great. Just more reason to mix things up. The Buch-Thomas-Vladi line has a natural feel to it, they should leave it alone. Kyrou can't seem to find his role when he is on the ROR line, and it makes more sense to put him on a line that gets easier matchups. I liked the way Brown played when he got a chance with ROR, maybe they should go back to that config.

Kyrou scored like crazy with Dad earlier this season. I honestly think he's fighting a nag.

So Barbashev won’t shoot 26% for a full season? I’m shocked. Sell HIGH.

I don't think they'd do it but it would be pretty interesting to see what they could get for him. Versatile, cheap, young and with great production this season. Plus Joshua works as a 4C and Bozak can drop in anywhere in the lineup. If a big offer came in for Barby, Kostin, even Parayko, I'd have to put my thinking cap on... don't think thats in Army's gameplan though.

Yeah other than Lindholm, everyone in the article doesn't move the needle for me. Chychrun maybe, but as you said BIG price... Soucy would be a fine addition. Even if we end up just using him on 3rd pairing, it will likely work better than what we've had. Might fit well with Perunovich too. And yes, try some of the other young blood up the line up, we need to find something that clicks other than Thomas W/anybody lol as great as that line has been its putting the 3 chips that can seemingly spark a line in one basket.

Bozak is washed, I think. Pains me to say that, but the guy can't even win draws anymore.

As for Barby, he has already had seasons of 25% and 23.3%, and he's pretty selective about shooting, so it's not the craziest thing ever for him to be over 20%. All players go through this stuff at some point. Schenn slumped way harder for way longer last season. Frenchy has slumps most every season. Kyrou's heading there now.

But I am starting to think maybe our group needs a small shake up to wake the boys up. Their effort level has been wildly inconsistent lately. Maybe it's a lull, maybe we have some nags going around, maybe it's an issue to worry about. I'm not sure. I think I might be more inclined to try moving Schenn before moving cheaper, younger guys like Barby and Sunny. Just from a cap future standpoint, really. I've even wondered if the Jets would do a Copp swap built around him. The things that stop me with that idea is 1) he's so good in the group & 2) that contract ain't gonna be easy to work with

You might be right about Bozy, hard to say. He's not a great option for 4C and he's getting beat out anywhere else too. To be clear, Barby is good value and good fit no matter where you play him, but if some desperate team comes in with a big offer, you gotta listen to them. Could flip futures for more help on D while trusting Dak/Brown/Bozak to step into the forward hole.

You're spot on with Schenn, it hurts the room big time but escapes the potential albatross contract.

1- Oh, I'm not against moving anybody for a duh-doy offer. Like you said, Barby's so damn versatile. And we have lost so many guys who hit people and work the cycle since the Cup win, losing him would really sting in that department.

Also, and maybe even more important right now, his effort level rarely if ever drops. I cannot say that about everyone on the team.

2- Yeah, I'm torn on Schenner, too. Maybe now isn't the time to ditch a vocal leader like him. He's just so hot and cold, it drives me nuts.
