so MTL, a rebuilding team, pays a 1st for an unproven goalie, when they have Carey Price, just to do WSH a favour?? plus that "late first" will be going to ARI based on its conditions.. might wanna look this one over again

I don't think the Carolina pick can be traded since it is part of the Dvorak trade conditions.

Not a fan of trading Sammy in the first place but I don't think that trade is possible.

if Montreal wants to throw their actual 1st in and have that route to the Islanders, though, Lou will gladly accept

1) Montreal wont have that 1st, the Coyotes will.
2) If Montreal is interested in Samsonov as reported, its likely a hockey trade, not a futures trade for them.

MTL, a rebuilding team, made a call to Washington about Sammy SOOOOOO maybe "unproven" is the wrong term for Sammy OR maybe you know more than their scouts lol. Could be the Flames first either way it will be outside the top 20. smile DOing Washington a favor? we are trading for Varlomov at 5m lol. doing us a favor would be retaining 2.5m for the next year in a half... Habs are getting a 24 year old goalie ... HOw many games did price play this year?

could just be the Flames 1st .... hardly matter just a 1st outside the top 20. imo Habs have nothing the Capitals would need besides a 1st we could use to acquire an upgrade at that position

Respectfully, teams in Washington's position basically never trade guys like Samsonov for futures. Your opinion is likely incorrect. Especially with how low you're valuing Braun.

They have Price...in the stands and on paper, but not on the ice.

MTL need a new goalie (as reported they are looking for one) because Price knee is done.

maybe my first comment was too harsh, but i still don't see MTL being interested at all in spending a 1st round pick in a rebuilding year. this is their time to be building draft capital, not spending it imo

Habs don't have the late 1st but i see you changed it to the calgary 1st, montreal ain't trading a 1st on the upcoming draft, A) they're last place team. B) the draft is in montreal. C) they have allen and Montembeault and just got a an AHL backup to ride off the rest of the season

" Especially with how low you're valuing Braun" i honestly love Braun and feel like nobody is really talking about him. i would pay more for him if i had to... Sprong + 3rd to me was a good starting point. would offer a 2nd +. but lets revisit your comment "Washington's position basically never trade guys like Samsonov for futures. Your opinion is likely incorrect." What does Habs have that Washington would trade Sammy for? do you think Lehkonen has that type of value? where does he slot in on Washington? Ovechkin Wilson Oshie Mantha Sheary Hagelin Hathaway thats 7 for the 8 wing positions Snively is on fire. mantha and oshie are currently hurt so maybe he can fill in for what like 1-1.5 months? but McM Protas Sprong are also on the team and wont cost us Sammy for a minor upgrade right? who else? BC? do you think capitals trade Sammy for a glorified "top 6" d man like him? his penalty differential is massive and his play is about average... He's not an upgrade over MF or Orlov so thats a no? who else is available that we can afford next year?

Capitals need a starting Goalie and someone to help their powerplay...Habs have the 2nd worse PP and are looking to upgrade in net...

they arent really built for a full rebuild imo i think if they win the lottery they can transition into a contender quickly... Guy like Gally Anderson Petry Dvorak.... they arent really "young" more middle age

fair enough but imo Sammy is a massive upgrade over what they have in the pipeline... i dont see anything they could offer us to move the needle for the Capitals to move Sammy. BUT we also trade Stephenson for a 5th so who knows ...

They have promising young goalies under 22, and Montembeault proved is an NHL goalie unless they get a good return when they trade allen i don't see them going for him regardless of the cost, but we don't know what's happening behind close doors with price injury situation... if he's back next season they have monty and allen to backup and wait to see primeau another year in the AHL, he's a good prospect and has talent but clearly isn't ready for the NHL

idk seems weird to reach out and ask what Sammy's price is unless they arent confident in their current stock. Who knows might just be them kicking the tire

I don't know, but Washington scouts have been following the Habs for a while a now, so its somebody on the active roster.

Lehkonen and Chiarot are both being shopped for 1sts or equivalent. Chiarot has terrible underlying numbers, but he's a playoff style D-man that GMs tend to love. Lehkonen is one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL this season.

Montreal also has Dvorak, Drouin (but probably not them since they're injured), Hoffman and Petry available. But those guys seem more like off-season moves.

Really? He's kind of been underwhelming tbh. He's got pedigree, but I don't think he's been anywhere near good enough to be viewed as a massive upgrade over anyone in the pipeline.

i enjoy that people would be fine with paying a 1st for Lehkonen and Chiarot but Sammy getting a 1st would be considered " alot". Again i doubt they make a phone call on Sammy if hes underwhelming / not a sizable upgrade.

Its not the 1st, its where the team is. For instance, Washington could probably get a good return on Orlov in futures, but I somehow doubt that will happen at the deadline.

TBH i wish they would do a "on the fly" rebuild. we have solid youth players and could use those picks to acquire talent

Canadiens can't afford to invest in another goalie right now. If Price can't play or retires then i'm sure Habs will want to persue better options than Samsonov

Korpisalo is 3 years older with worse numbers.... i love when people down play how important goalies are...

top teams in the NHL

Jarry 2.25gga .923s%
Andersen 2.07gga .928s%
Shesterkin 2.05gga .938s%

dont think anyone besides Campbell that is this skill will available unless you offer something crazy (more than a late 1st) lol

example..
when capitals were amazing

Holtby
2.07gga .925s%
2.20gga .922s%
both years won presidents trophy

I can't follow your logic.

Habs should find a better option than Samsonov to replace Price... But there isn't any available beside Campbell which is going to cost more....

Sooo Samsonov IS the best option!?!?

we are arguing the same point. Sammy would be the Habs wet dream... a buy lowish goalie with a high ceiling. the fact they think they have anything worth value in their pipe is crazy... let alone when they claim to be in a rebuild mode.... Petry Drovak Anderson Hoff Gally ... they are middle aged at best cantafford to rebuild
