Description
Islanders trade and Boston trade didn’t put any thought into don’t expect positive comments about. More just looking at possible options that could continue to round out the roster. With it being a real possibility we can see a battle of Alberta in playoffs kinda built the lines to suit that match up not soo much an everyday line up. Hence kass with mcdavid think we all can figure out why that is.

Wasn’t really attempting a real offer just throwing pieces together I see as being possibly available at deadline.

Glad you aren't being too serious! These acquisitions are suspect at best.

The only one I do like is Drouin but I’ve been bullish on putting him next to Leon for awhile.

Haha with that expectation won’t get anything and can watch him walk away next year.

Leon needs linemates that can shoot. He's probably the best passer in the world (aside from McDavid) and you want to put Drouin next to him?

In any case, the Oilers are (rightly) trying to become harder to play against, guys like Drouin and DeBrusk need not apply.

Drouin retained for a 1st is fine. Highly doubt he gets that at next year's TDL. Koskinen coming back might be an issue, that is still $9M for a 1st, ignoring any residual value Drouin himself holds.
That's a pretty hefty price for a 1st if you look at Montreal as the buyers here. May still be worth it if they want another 1st badly enough. It's one way to get ahead if you're a money rich team.
As long as you're going into it knowing you're getting ripped off, good for the team, bad for the owner.

I'd take that Drouin trade. At this point Habs need to cut their loses on Drouin and if you can get a 1st rounder now do it. But they would probably get more next year when he will be a UFA at the end of the season

Way I kinda see it if Drouin was a pending ufa today I’d personally only be willing to go as high as a second rounder with the same retention upgraded it to a first because he does have one more year. Given the direction the team is going in think he’s going to be raising his stock by deadline next year? I don’t see him suddenly having a bunch of success while the roster is watered down it’s going to continue to hurt his value. Since Montreal is hosting the draft I’d suspect adding a first for a guy likely not getting much calls on would be a huge win. Maybe I’m wrong. As for kosk I understand the perception around him is terrible but do think he would be helpful add for the habs down the stretch. He won’t stop the bleeding but more limit the bleeding more than they have which is important. I get fans are completely fine tanking but don’t think it’s good for the players. They need to feel like they have a fighting chance and some sort of stability to build off of. Kosk can come in and help with that again he won’t stop the bleeding but help slow it down. Just seems like a fitting solution.

With the direction habs are going in I don’t see drouins value rising only sinking further. If he was a pending ufa this year I wouldn’t offer a first would likely be a second or shop elsewhere upgraded to a first because expecting retention on a full season. Habs host the draft this year better to cut tires now with a first on the table or rather wait and see next year?

Harder to play against I think is solving itself internally. Really began suspecting Tippett was holding guys back from playing that heavy physical style. Very unfortunate kass got hurt when he did kinda someone that really interested to see under woodcroft because his last impressions and style of play he saw in kass as a coach in Edmonton was during a time he was very effective player. I think as the roster gets healthy it will be much harder group to play against than we have been seeing most of the year. I will admit I’m not big on both Drouin and debrusk that is going too much in the softer direction however do think we can do one and I like the idea of Drouin more so because having a big strong centre like Leon can get a lot out of him. Sure Leon is an unbelievable passer but he’s also an amazing shooter. Drouin only job is to be creative and help Leon and jp put up goals. Don’t expect a complete all round game but for under 3 million could be a huge bargain.

No real issue with the Drouin part.
Paying a goaltender $4.5M to keep us respectable is just unnecessary. Allen will be back eventually, Montembault has been performing better, and Hammond is just filler until Allen is back.
Thinking it over though, I wasn't considering Koskinen's salary being mostly paid (as well as Drouin), so it's more like $5M. Therefore I withdraw my objection. Still high, but not outlandish.

A huge bargain?? You paid a 1st round pick!! That's a huge overpay for an injury prone guy who has 15 goals in his last 3 years combined.

2.750 million for Drouin in a contract year next to Leon is a gamble I see paying off. I completely understand why would be hesitant it’s not a slam dunk target does carry risk.

If you're gambling with 1st round picks, you're doing it all wrong. 1sts should be spent on sure things only.

What’s the worst thing that can happen? Drouin doesn’t fit in and sucks? Name recognition and being under 3 million he’s movable in the offseason won’t recoup complete cost but certainly movable contract. Best case sky is the limit hard to say since the reasons why I believe it will work is a factor he hasn’t had to work since Tampa which was brief a big strong scoring centre. There is no pressure on him to drive play or do anything other than compliment other talent so he’s able to loosen up more.

If it doesn't work he's not movable. You 100% won't be getting a 1st for him if he can't score with Draisaitl. So you're risking a 1st for no reason - a 1st will get you somebody you KNOW will score in the top-6. Calgary just spent a 1st on Toffoli who has a MUCH better track record over the past 3 years.
