I’ve been hearing Miller in trade rumors for the past month is that no longer a thing?

Can't think of a single reason why Rangers should trade their 2nd best young defenseman.

For a legitimate top 6 winger not named Alexis Lafreniere or Barclay Goodrow.

Too much for Fiala. Not that NYR needs another winger.

I think this is pretty reasonable for Fiala. Top 6 winger who scores at a .8ppg clip consistently. Kravstov is unproven, Miller is still progressing and the 1st rounder will likely be on the back 16 of the draft. Fiala is a no brainer upgrade over Lafreniere, Kakko, and Goodrow.

Wild is going to be f*cked with Fiala next offseason, so he can probably be had at reduced price, either via trade (similar to Reinhart) or maybe an offer sheet. Offer sheet in the realm of $7,5M should do the trick, and that would cost NYR 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks, which is cheaper than this offer, with Wild having very difficult time matching it.

He's probably an upgrade from Lafreniere, Kakko and Goodrow for now, but those two also need time in the top-6 to actually develop. That, or use them as the trade chips instead to get even better assets. Having them dropped in a diminished role at the bottom-6 is probably the worst course of action NYR can do with their most potential assets.

But fixing an issue just to create another issue is not the answer.

They have Lundqvist and Schneider I don’t think trading Miller will create another issue

Sure that could work assuming he wants to go to New York, also assuming he’s willing to sign a long term offer sheet. If he was offer sheeted, the only way I see him accepting it is a 1 year deal which walks him right into UFA. It would either be 1 year of Fiala for a bunch of draft picks or 5+ years of Fiala for the offer above. I don’t think their is any in between.

Also they can choose to trade Dumba instead so saying, “ Wild will be screwed with Fiala next year” isn’t really accurate.

Well then, let me fix that a bit.

Wild will be screwed with cap.

However they deal with that is going to affect their roster and potentially quite significantly. It's almost certain they will lose either one of Fiala or Dumba.

I don't think there's any issue in Fiala signing a $7,5M x 5 contract with Rangers, other than Rangers' cap situation. It's unlikely he'd get more than that from free agency either, should he make a one year deal.

That being said, I don't think Rangers should go after Fiala.

One of Fiala or Dumba is definitely gone in the off season, there is no other way to make the cap work. Luckily for us we have Calen Addison who can take Dumba’s spot right away if that’s who Guerin decides to trade. If he decides to trade Fiala then it will likely be a sign and trade which he’ll get a pretty good package for. So yeah it sucks but if he can get a good package for whoever he decides to trade without affecting the team too much then it’s not so bad.

Sign and trades are extremely rare. I don't think that'll happen with him, especially if he gets moved at the offseason. His situation is rather close to Reinhart's in terms of him being a RFA that his respective team is having hard time re-signing (albeit for different reasons).

If I had to take a punt, a team with cap space (like NJ for instance) might trade a prospect plus 2023 1st for Fiala, or potentially maybe risk an offer sheet.

That depends what Fiala will sign for. I did an ACGM on how they might be able to get through next year with the core intact.
