Why would we pay a third for Dickinson when this is what we got for him before his worst season in his career?

In other words, his value is dropping like an anchor.

Would not give you either of those pieces straight up for Motte.

Not really, he still has bounce back potential

If you wouldn’t give a third for Motte you have never watched him play, Straight up

Exactly, maybe a 4th but he’s not a scrub

He's playing like a scrub. Tough to sell someone on bounce back potential when the price tag is almost 3m each of the next two years after this one.

I dont think anyone gives a 4th, let alone a 3rd unless he starts contributing.

On another note, I like the Boeser trade for Ottawa. I'd pull the trigger on that if it were up to me.

I would not trade Dickinson for less than a 3rd, which is what they paid to acquire him. Dickinson has been put in a very difficult situation changing teams for the first time and coming to an organization that has lacked any profound semblance of a winning culture in recent years, which caused him to have difficulty finding a consistent spot on the depth charts. I truly think there is room for Dickie to bounce back and go into next season with more certainty

I disagree, 3rd rounders aren't THAT valuable, the chances of picking a future impact player at the NHL level isn't that high, I think other teams would be willing to roll the dice in this scenario

I hear you but going back to the other comment, if he was worth a 3rd as a rental making 1.1m less and scoring at 3 times the pace why would the asset retain a similar value now with what could be an anchor of a contract if he doesnt bounce back.

Asking someone to roll the dice on him for the next two years at the price oh his contract is one thing but asking them to pay a reasonably valuable asset on top of that is tough.

Dickinson hasn't been that big of a disappointment, and he's definitely having a down year compared to previous seasons, but he's still got value as a defensive-minded forward, there will be teams interested in him knowing he will be somewhat cheap

Don’t need him. 3rd would be his value. Adding Debrusk is laughable. But the 4th line is all set.
