Very far off for Ottawa. Assuming they end up moving Paul, they will get plenty of offers, and every one of them will be way better than a 4th liner and a 6th. I like Aston Reese, but he's a free agent and Ottawa has plenty of 4th line options next season.

That ANA trade is just horrible for the Pens IMO. That's a lot to give up for a so-so dman that they don't even need. Plus, I'm not convinced that ANA will be sellers.

this whole thing is a mess.
PIT isn't trading one of their best prospects and a 2nd for rental Manson who they can't afford next year.

AZ flat out declines. They probably laugh as they hang up the phone.

at no point should they claim Dzingel. Just let that be. OTT hooked and crooked people feeding him the puck for a year. That's all there is to that.

Yeah, ZAR doesn't make sense for a non-playoff team. I also don't think it make sense for OTT to move Paul. He's a decent bottom six player who brings some good size and physicality, but he probably doesn't net you more than a 4th or a 3rd. I think he brings more value to your team to stay than what you'd get in return.

I thought he was worth a 3/4 but ZAR is probably worth a 4 so i gave the 6 to be the sweetener, maybe it could be a 3 teamer where ZAR goes to a team that needs a bottom 6, Paul to pens and picks to OTT

I think we are running out there with 2 3rd pairs rn so Manson pairs with Matheson to give us an actual 2nd pair imo, our defense has been so bad

Yeah, I get that rationale and ZAR is definitely in the same category, but that value is really only to a playoff-bound team. A team not heading to playoffs really has no need to give up an asset for a player they can try to sign in the off-season.

Having a few bad games doesn't mean our defense is so bad. The Pens defense has been one of the stingiest defenses in the league. Good teams will have ruts and that's what's going on, so I wouldn't get too freaked out. Also, Manson is honestly not very good defensively. I know he's having a bit of a rebound season this year, but he's more a product of the team playing better around him than him making his team better.

I really wouldn't break up the Matheson/Ruhwedel pairing right now. They've been so good.

Advanced stats show only really Letang and Matheson have been above a third pair dman grade this year, I think Ruds has well outplayed expectation but could still be upgraded on

It's about stylistic fit. Ruhwedel's style perfectly compliments Matheson's style. He needs a steady reliable vanilla dman.

Also, what advanced metrics are you using? Matheson's underlying stats are off the charts good this year.

Yea, Matheson and Letang are the only ones, Ruds has a steady grade, Dumo is pretty bad, Petterson and Marino are meh and grade out as a third pair

Dude from the Athletic. Don't get me wrong, the grades still lead to the penguins having a very good D, but depth scoring and our defense are the weak spots and i think a better partner for Matheson fixes the defense and then we need to fix secondary scoring/guys that work dirty areas

ruhwedel is fine but we have only friedman as RHD insurance... we need a veteran (think mark streit or ron hainsey type (faster tho lol) like in '16 or '17 just to have actual "next man up" level competency in the lineup esp for the playoffs... i love the speed and skill but we do have to have tenacity and greasy net front goals or else the playoffs are another waste of time... let's be real

Honestly, Friedman has been great when called upon. Could the Pens use some extra depth? Ok, sure, but Manson isn't depth.

Just used it to show the “next man up” guys, doubt any of those guys gets claimed going through waivers, and most of them don’t even need waivers
