I could see a contender going hard after Scheifele at the TDL. 3 playoff pushes with a RHS PPG #1C on a steal of a deal would garner tons of interest. Target a potential #1 RHD or C. If Chevy isn’t exploring this option right meow, he needs to. Maximize the return and do a quick turnaround like NY.
A blue Chipper/roster player/pick(s)
Copp and Stasny for sure. I would love to keep Copp but I think he will be too expensive.
Trade Copp to a team that needs retention to maximize return, hopefully in the 1st or good prospect/mid pick type return range.
Talk to Stasny to see his preference first. I assume Minny but if he wants to stay and re-sign, I keep him. He’s very respected and has done a lot for the franchise and is loved by everyone. Probably return a 2nd if traded though
Dillon should get more than a Chia return. I would target Edmonton or Toronto. He would be very valuable in playoffs, especially for the extra year at a reasonable cap hit. If Chia gets a 1st, Dillon should get more. Maybe Edmonton for their 1st/B prospect or Borgault+? Free up 3.9M
Pull the C off Wheels.
Get a new coach. I’d love for Chevy to go off the board for a Scott Sandelin or Rikard Gronborg. Enough of recycling the same garbage. Find an entirely new coaching staff and shoot Huddy into the sun.
Beyond that, Chevy should sit down with the players and see who’s on board with a quick restructure and who’s intent on re-signing. Move on from the rest. The only untouchables for me are PLD, KFC, Perfetti, and to a lesser extent JoMo and Heinola (Samberg would probably be in there as well).
