Kubalik with JT and Nylander would light the lamp; a better version of him with Toews and Saad a couple years ago. Or, put him on the 3rd line with Kampf who he has chemistry with and move Kerfoot back up.
He has a $4M qualifying offer as a RFA and his production has dropped off big time from his first two seasons, mostly because of a rotating cast of characters as linemates and being on a bad team, but those two together and he's worth no more then a 2nd, maybe a 3rd

So basically he's a pending UFA. I don't see anyone giving him that QO. I think even as a rental one year depth winger he could net a 2nd imo. Especially with retention.
If this is all we can get for Kubalik, we might as well give him the QO this summer and see if he can regain any value
I don't think we can keep both Strome and Kubalik. At this point, I'd rather keep Strome as he has a lower QO, is younger, and center a bit more valuable.
Leafs fans have been salivating over Hagel recently. Don't know how that would change the trade if you were to either add him or exchange him with Kubalik.
Hmmm, I think the overall value is there (maybe even in TOR's favour), but I'm fearful that the PK takes a hit with Mikheyev leaving. Kubalik would be on the second PP unit, which isn't really an issue area right now. But he would fit real nicely in the top 6 with Tavares and Nylander.

maybe we won't want to keep both but we will have the cap space to. Unless we're bringing in a Lindholm esk LD which I wouldn't hate

Kubalik's value is a lot less then Hagel due to age and contract status (Kubs has a $4M QO as a RFA this summer)

I think part of the issue is he will be 27 years old before the start of next season and realistically we are at least 2 if not 3 more seasons before we are competitive and typically forwards are peaking at 27/28 years old unlike defensemen or goalies. If we are looking to rebuild, he will be at least 29 or 30 before we are relevant again. I'd rather save that cap space in exchange for a 2nd round pick to make an acquisition this off season (like Lindholm or a goalie) or the following off season. Or, we sign Kubalik and take the chance he returns to form and trade him at the next TDL for a better return. Interesting debate.
