Boston already has McAvoy and Carlo in their top 4 RD, No freaking way is Don Sweeney paying jeff Petry 3 x $6,250,000 to be on the bottom pairing RD in Boston.

From what's being reported by Eric Engles it's pretty much down between Detroit and Dallas for Petry. Detroit can definitely outbid Dallas for his service plus can eat his entire contract where Dallas can't.

I like Krav for Lehkonen straight up but i wouldn't mind the Rangers going Krav & the 3rd rounder for Kulak & Lehkonen.

I know, but it does not concern me in the slightest where he goes which is why I put that.

Really like that Dvorak trade, but I feel that in exchange for more retention the 3rd could be upped to a 2nd, and then for even more throw in a 4th.

To MTL:
Nils Lundkvist
2022 2nd Round Pick (STL)
2022 4th Round Pick (NYR)

To NYR:
Christian Dvorak (2,250,000 retained)

Looks good, but I am not sure how I feel about retaining more than I am now, hes still under contract for 3 years, and if Hughes wants to be competitive by then, it would potentially hurt us more.

Chiarot is not worth a 1st. The market this year is not like last year - there are many better LHD options than Chiarot.

Unfortunately I can see mtl being in a rebuild for a while, and retention will not hurt you guys, especially considering that you draft high this upcoming draft all that retention comes off for when you need to resign the players you draft.

Gotta take into account Caufield, Romanov, Evans, Krav, and maybe Monty just in this offseason.

For the last time……..The Oilers aren’t giving MTL a 1st for Chiarot.

Look up Hollands Presser 3 weeks ago, under no circumstances are the Oilers giving up prospects or 1st round picks for players with no term!
It’s not happening, it’s never going to happen stop using it as a trade.

Yep, not to mention Suzuki going to be bringing on another 8M alone this off season. If theres more ways for the Habs to get cap relief, then sure I would not mind, but before then, the trade as is should be fine.

It's possible, GM's do dumb things occasionally. But that's different from saying he's worth that.

Look at the market: Chychrun, Giordano, Lindholm, Manson, Klingberg, Subban, Ristolainen, etc. - there are lots of guys competing for those few teams who will spend that much to bolster their roster for a playoff run. And of the top-13 teams, 5 of them have already traded their 1st round pick.

Nobody is giving a 1st for Chiarot, it’s over, let it go. Unless it’s a trade and sign.

I've said it recently, I don't know why Habs fans want to cut bait with Dvorak so soon after giving up a 1st & 2nd for him. When he's healthy this year his production is in line with what he was doing in Arizona (~0.5/PPG).

I understand the desire to move on from some of Marc Bergevin's guys, but you'd be selling him at a huge loss in this case - you'd basically have a turned a late 1st, 2024 2nd, an early 3rd, and somewhere between $1.5-2M for the next 3 years into Nils Lundkvist. Lundkvist is good, but I'm pretty sure any Rangers fan would agree he isn't worth *that* much.

The only team I can see giving up a 1st for Chiarot is Toronto and maybe Florida on the condition you take a contract back. Much more likely to get a 2nd with retention. No one will pay for Petry. Especially mid season. Most teams have a plethora of LHD playoff teams can just swap a top 4 LHD to Florida for a RHD that’s cheaper and probably better than Petry. Pens don’t want Kulak maybe a team would be willing that needs depth, but pens are probably the last team that needs a LHD. They have 5 LHD and 2 RHD that can play the left side. The ranger trades are pretty fair though.

yeah i've seen a few folks including him in the names of UFA RD that might get a 1st and i'd honestly be shocked. even at full retention it's still a $4.5M cap hit for an offensive defenseman with 17 points in 47 games this year. i think the most likely is he either finishes the year in Jersey, or the Devils sacrifice a little of their return to get a 3rd team to take another $2.25M of that hit.

Like it or not, Chiarot has the reputation as a "playoff presence" and has recent experience of going to the final and playing against Vegas and Tampa.
He's also more flexible to fit in on a capped out team, which is a lot of them. His UFA status is even a benefit to teams that have complicated situations next season.
He's also 99% available regardless of whether the return is a 1st. Most of the players available don't check all those boxes, and those are the things that are attracting teams to him.

Have to do something to avoid the retention. It's just not practical or good return otherwise.
Turning a 1st + 2nd for Dvorak @ $4.5M into Lundkvist + 2nd for Dvorak @ $2.25M, is taking a huge loss on a player who hasn't had a legitimate chance to succeed in Montreal yet.
Chytil and Lundkvist for Dvorak without retention might be a consideration, but that's still giving up on him too early. I'd at least like to see him play under MSL first.

who knows if klinberg, lindholm and manson are available, dont think these teams stopped chasing for a playoff spot, the next few games are gonna be a be a big factor for the upcoming market for defenseman. i see gio and chychrun being the other top guy, but one of them is probanly too expensive asset wise for most teams. this is gonna be a exciting deadline i i think. i feel chiarot's repuation is gonna be a big factor in his price at the end of the day. i still think we'll get something just a bit short of a first.
