What I think Rangers should do

Created by: JackAce91
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2022
Published: Feb. 22, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Probably gonna get some hate for this. Some of these aren't quite realistic as they may have been six months ago, namely the Hertl trade, but I'd like to think it's still a possibility. Anyway, I think these trades help the team on their 5v5 offense issue, while also helping contain some of the high-risk chances they are giving up.

Certainly the out of playoffs Senators aren't trading for an upcoming g UFA. Rangers can't afford bonus carryover into next season, so they can't take on so much cap.

Ottawa was apparently interested in Strome over the off-season. Idk if they still are or not, but they once were. If I were them, I'f be fine giving up a depth D, and backup, and one of their three thirds to get a guy they resign to help lead their young guys the next few years.

Hertl would probably resign, either way though he is great at 5v5 offense. Pavelski is defensively responsible, good in playoffs, and very good at generating 5v5 offense.

Actually thought I was for a second there. Thank god some anonymous capfriendly user felt the need to remind me that I'm not instead of actually giving feedback on just-for-fun, hypothetical trades

Oh, I think Strome would be good signing for Ottawa, but no reason to think having him the lineup now, encourages him to resign as Sen, Just take your chances as a UFA. Rangers don't have the cap for him next season. But Rangers are doing well now, they shouldn't be trading Strome, and I as suggested, they don't have the cap for high priced additions this season

Yeah, I agree there is not reason Ottawa needs him now if it means giving up assets, however, if the Rangers want anything for him, they need to trade before the TDL, which I think is worthwhile. So it's why I lowballed a little bit to make the trade worthwhile for both teams. I see where you're coming from though.

Well, you should've stated it in the additional details... it changes the picture but as an outsider who isn't a of the team's involved it feels like giving up a lot

Gutted? A center who very likely won't resign in Strome, Georgiev who has been rumored to be on the block for pretty much the whole season, Chytil who has underperformed consistently, Kravstov who won't be playing for the Rangers again, and Lundkvist who seems to be the first piece to go to make a trade work. I didn't trade a single piece that hasn't either been rumored to go, or makes sense to go. And I only brought back guys who could reasonably resign or greatly help the team to make a playoff run. Everything seems fair to me.

Fair enough. I went back and forth on those two trades a couple of times to try to get it right, but I think they are fair offers to fix problems the Rangers have.

Again, youre not seeing it. You gutted the team for a bunch of rentals.

Rather than using the assets to bring in players that will make us better in the long run, you traded away every available asset we have to get your 1 run at the playoffs. Well, you can keep Lehkonen. *slow clap*

Traded away Strome, who was gonna leave. Traded away Georgiev who is likely to leave. Don't you see that these players are rentals themselves at this point? I just swapped rentals for better rentals and rentals that have a better chance of staying. Have you never heard of resigning?

Who said Strome is leaving? You?

Who is gonna resign? Pavelski? Nope. He doesnt want to leave Dallas to begin with. Hertl? We will have a hard enough time managing the cap with a Strome deal at a discount.

As I said, you gave away all our available assets and get nothing in return to move on to the next year with… and were without a 1st round pick in 2 out of the next 3 years so even if we tried to retool we couldnt.

the interest in strome before the year was driven a lot because the team was playing Stutzle at LW but hes moved to centre full time now to fill the 2c void we wanted strome to play in so there's less of a desire to bring in a center to play with norris and pinto now. Holdens actually been really good this year for the sens on and off the ice but id honestly probably decline just because holden has a contract next year and Strome doesn't
