Oilers won’t move Barrie right after giving him an extension and having zero depth on right side d.

Hard pass from Washington. Lehkonen isn't the type of forward we need right now and Samsonov gives us a higher ceiling than Allen or Vanecek does

Interesting. You think Samsonov is still the way to go? (Honest question.)
He may have the higher ceiling, but is he going to get there in time, and are you comfortable betting a year of your roster on a tandem with no wins and a combined 4 games of playoff experience?

I was going to say Montreal shouldn't do this trade.
We have a few promising goaltenders on top of Price/Allen already, and plenty of time to figure it out.

Out of the options that should be available, I'd rather go out and grab Fleury or Varlamov, but if we can't get either of those guys, I think Samsonov gives us the highest ceiling. When he's been on, he's been unreal. He looked good for the most part in the Boston series last year with the exception of the Bergeron goal in game 5, so I wouldn't hate it if he got the net game 1. I just don't think we should move away from that for an "experienced option" that we know isn't capable of leading a team to a Cup run

I thought the idea was to go with Vanacek anyway, so it may be moot. Keeping Samsonov might mean running with three goaltenders though. Not the worst idea, but not necessarily the most practical, especially if it's someone with term.

I honestly don't mind having three goalies on the roster if we get a veteran, but my ideal trade includes Vanecek going to NYI along with picks and more to get both Varlamov and Mayfield. I'd be much quicker to trade Vanecek than Sammy just because the ceiling is so high if Sammy figures it out how to be consistent day to day.
