Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Couple things of note:
1) Kulak, Chiarot, and Lehkonen trades take place at the deadline, Drouin and Petry are offseason moves. Drouin can get less, I really don't care, I just want his spot in the lineup free for younger players.
2) Don't know too much about Dallas prospects. I think if Petry continues this level of play that he has been since MSL took over (I know it's a small sample size but still, I think there's some sustainability in the way the Habs have been playing ever since they were free from the iron grip of Dom Ducharme). Ultimately, feel free to replace the prospect coming back.
3) All players on the taxi squad are players I expect to be pushing for a roster spot within the next 2-3 years (starting 2023-2024).
4) The Habs are gonna play too well down the stretch to get Shane Wright (Still pick 2-3 overall though, they really dug themselves a hole with ol' Dommy. Cooley represents one of Wright, himself, or Savoie, I'm fine with all three of them).
5) I don't care if you think he's worth it or not Ben Chiarot is getting a first round pick in return.

And that's about it do your worst.

    Additional Details:
Plus whatever mid-round picks are required to push this through. The thought process is, the Islanders are all pretty much old and cap-strapped, with nothing in the prospect pipeline, so the quantity over quality argument could apply here. There are two top right d's in this draft, but Simon Nemec is gonna go top 5, I think Jiricek will go between 7-12, so if the Islanders pick is in that range I'd love to move up and grab him.

Stl may want him but they won’t give a first round pick for him
Mtl can whine all they want that that’s the price but DA doesn’t give first round picks up for rentals sorry

I think if MTL gets 2 1st round pick (even if it late one) they should keep it for 2 possible GOOD player.
This year draft shows NO superstar= OK Great 5 first OA... but after from 10 to 30... they have all +/- the same value this year.

In regards of your roster... GOD get some RD fast... this is terrible having Savard on the first pair... maybe you meant Serge Savard

These are all rational trades, this site just likes to hate on Montreal.

I made a Toffoli trade about a month ago that was Kylington, a 1st, 2023 3rd and 5th for Toffoli and I got ganged up on that, and then we got a better return than a waivered player 1 season removed.
Before that I asked a 1st alone from Florida for him and also got hate for it from this site.

Isles aren't as cap-strapped as you'd think - they still have about $10M in cap space this summer even after you account for an RFA raise for Noah Dobson, and they can free up more if they move Varlamov.

That being said, I think this draft has Shane Wright, and then a bunch of solid if not spectacular prospects, so the drop off in trading down from the 7-10 range might not be horrible. I think the Habs could move up with sending either one of those two extra picks (assuming they're both around 20) and, if they wanna roll the dice, an unprotected 2023 1st; otherwise, it's the Calgary & StL 1sts + something from that batch of 2nds and 3rds you've collected up there - the higher the Isles pick winds up, the higher I'd try and pull out of that batch.

No, that makes no sense. The consensus is that 2023 picks are worth more than 2022 picks, so theres no shot Montreal is sending their 2023 unprotected.

Meh sure, but how many more prospects can you fit on this team. Jiricek has great size and puck-moving ability, has a higher ceiling than the d’s supposed to go in the 20’s, and can make it to the NHL quicker. I’d only be interested in this trade if the isles pick is in the top 10, cause after 10 or 11 the draft starts to plateau, and you can find the same quality player at 27 as you can at 13.
I don’t really care about the d situation. We don’t have a de facto top pairing and we’re not ready to contend anyway. They’d have Mailloux and Jiricek coming up the year after anyways, and I doubt any quality free agents want to go to Montreal in the state it is now. Once 2023-2024 season rolls around you’d have Romy-Mailloux Guhle-Jiricek as your top four anyway. Initially I wanted to keep Petry for another year so he could possibly boost his value playing with Edmundson again, but I didn’t think his wife would allow it so I moved him.

good enough... but you never know who will be the next Aho, Bergeron, Barzal, Theodore, ++++ drafted as a mid-late first

The islanders best players are relatively young
      Pelech (27)
      Pulock(27)
      Sorokin (26)
      Barzal (24)
      Beauvillier (24)
      Dobson(22)
      Wahlstrom (21)

The chara, Greene and Parise 1 year deals increase the average age of the roster

That being said, the isles are better off taking a high end prospect like a Slafkovsky/Nazar/Yurov than two guys like Liam Ohgren and Jack Hughes. I don’t think there’s a chance they would trade back with two 20s picks if they pick top 10.

Very true. But for every one of those guys there’s about 20 McCarron, Sherbak, Juulsen, Beaulieu, Tinordi etc.

No, that makes no sense. The consensus is that 2023 picks are worth more than 2022 picks, so theres no shot Montreal is sending their 2023 unprotected.

That's why I said it would be Montreal rolling the dice. Tankathon has the Isles picking 9th currently, and the STL & Calgary picks falling at 23 & 29 respectively. I don't think those two are enough to jump all the way up to 9, so you're going to have to add (right now you have Montreal with their own 2nd at 33 and the Rangers in the late 50s) so you either give up 23+29+33 to move up to 9, or you can do something like 23/next year's 1st/something in the mid-rounds to give approximate value.

Look at some of the guys picked in the last decade at #9: Trevor Zegras, Marco Rossi, Mikhail Sergeachev, Timo Meier, Nikolaj Ehlers, Bo Horvat, & Jacob Trouba. Impact players get picked there.

At #23 & #29? You've got Brock Boeser, Andre Burakovsky, and a bunch of guys who haven't made it yet or never did before washing out.

It's going to take a lot to move from the mid/late 20s into the top 10, and I think a future pick in a strong draft class isn't an insane ask.
