Turn COL's 3rd into a 1st and SJ accepts. I'm not against your logic though, I think the team should think hard about selling high on Meier but only if the price is right.

avs decline, Meier has a 10m QO the same season Mackinnon needs a new contract, they are not taking on that cap time bomb

Move Vlasic, Burns, and Karlsson. That would probably fix the majority of your issues. Just don't know who will want to take any of those monster contracts.

It has to be a massive overpay or it’s not worth it

It would cost too much to move even Vlasic's contract. 5 more years at 7M with a NMC for a guy who's a 3rd pairing D at best and declining.

Newhook would be an excellent piece for SJ's future I don't think Avs need to add.

Timo walks for nothing if you hold onto him. SJS have too many bad contracts to be true cup contenders over the next 2 years. The longer you hold onto Timo the more his value drops.

Canes pass HARD.

Jarvis was a no in an Eichel trade. KK's been fantastic as the 4C. A Hertl deal could work, but it would be picks and prospects, not players off the roster. Why subtract key pieces from a cup contending roster for a rental?

How exactly does Timo “walk”? He’s an RFA he can’t just walk. The contracts aren’t an issue either when it comes to resigning him. What are you even talking about?

The player we want from Carolina of course is “untouchable” like every other teams decent prospects.

Jarvis has a precedent set. They said no to Eichel because it involved Jarvis. This isn't the fanbase saying he's untouchable, the team already has shown it.

Agreed Jarvis is a no go....but I could totally see the canes trading KK and prospects for Hertl.

For one year with a 10M QO and arbitration rights. If you bring him all the way to that point I don't think you get much for him.

Bud, they just sign him. The way he’s played this year he’s worth the 10 mil

With how well he’s been playing there are really only three options. Either they extend him before he becomes an RFA for less than his QO, give him a shorter contract at that 10M price tag or trade him well before then.

Not qualifying him just won’t happen so there’s no leverage gained by bringing that up as an option.

Jarvis like ya no go as Canes have been unwilling to put him in other big trades (Eichel) and that was before he was a full timer and just a prospect.

Hertl would be a great get if an extension was part of the deal. Would be fine having a KK plus picks/prospects package. Serves as insurance for likely losing Troch in the off season.

KK Suzuki and a 2nd that turns into a first if Canes make SCF?

KK isn't that attractive as a piece especially since he will have to be paid 6.1M to retain his RFA rights. He's just an add on to make Hertl fit under the cap.

So you're basically offering Suzuki and a 2nd for Hertl which isn't enough. Hertl should get at least a 1st and a good prospect.

I think you summed it up pretty well. In this scenario I'm picking the 3rd option.

KK has more value than just an offsetting contract imo - he's not worth a long term deal at 6+ for sure, but he's still young and has played really well in limited minutes and in the situation he's in. Still think he's going to be a middle 6 C and likely will be for CAR next year barring a trade since it seems likely Troch will walk. He's also very likely to sign an extension below his QO as has been reported around the league since the OS happened last summer. Seems like a 4x4 framework has been rumored and at that price / term I think that's pretty solid value.

Whether that moves the needle enough for SJS is another story.

He may sign a 4Mx4 deal but I doubt he takes a discount to play in SJS who would be going through a retool/rebuild.

He probably finishes the season and then re-signs with Carolina at the end of the season.

If somehow he had an extension in place soon this would be interesting. If I was him I'd be waiting until after the deadline to sign an extension if I didnt want to go anywhere.
