Description
The Canucks are not a rebuilder. We have a promising team. Our main issues are defensively (we are too weak in terms of NHL-ready talent available). However, if we were to entertain the idea of JT, Brock & Garly being gone - I thought I would throw together some deals that would be the price that the Canucks should be holding out for.

However, given that we arent a rebuilder, I do not see us going down that road. This is why I believe Allvin and Rutherford will most likely pursue moves that improve us defensively, while also dumping off cap heavy contracts. This is what Rutherford did in Pittsburgh prior to them becoming a contender. Some guys I could see getting moved:

1. Pearson
2. Myers
3. Halak
4. Hamonic
5. Schenn
6. Dickinson
7. Motte
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Dermott, Travis
  2. Liljegren, Timothy
  3. Robertson, Nicholas
  4. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
  5. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
** Conditional 2024 1st round pick (TOR) **

** If the Leafs make it to the Conference Finals in either 2022 or 2023, and JT Miller puts up +10 points in the playoffs, the pick is a 2024 1st round pick. Otherwise, the pick becomes a 2024 2nd round pick (TOR) **
2.
VAN
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
  2. Poulin, Samuel
  3. 2022 1st round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Boeser, Brock ($2,000,000 retained)
3.
VAN
  1. Mercer, Dawson
  2. 2023 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
** Conditional 2023 1st round pick (NJD) **

** If C. Garland has more than 60 PTS In his first full season with NJD, the pick is a 2023 1st round pick, otherwise it turns into a 2023 2nd round pick. If conditions are met but NJD's 1st round pick turns into a top 5 selection - the 1st is changed to a 2024 1st round pick. **
4.
VAN
  1. Koskinen, Mikko
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
** Conditional 2nd round pick (EDM) **

** If Edmonton makes it to the Conference finals in 2022 and Halak plays in 5 playoff games, posting a .912 SV% or better, the pick becomes a 2024 1st round pick (EDM). **

Mercer > Garland already

Adding a first on top of that is crazy

That's fair. I don't watch the NJD enough to know his value. But after looking at his draft position/stats so far... I'd imagine you value him like a top 8 drafted prospect. In which case, one-for-one would've been good. Garly's contract is very good, there's a chance we'll offload him to a team for a first-round prospect, a first ++

I like the idea of the conditional pick but I don’t think the leafs would want to give up both Liljegren and Robertson

Pitt does that trade instantly. Your value on that in relation to your outrageous value on the other trades is interesting.

If defense is the weakest link, does trading three top forwards and only adding Dermott and Liljegren solve that?

They really don’t though. Pens decline that all day. Pens aren’t gonna pay to take on that awful QO
