As an Avs fan, I've heard Brown's name tossed around, but I'm honestly not sure of his style nor his strengths and weaknesses, what would you say they are, and what's a starting point for him?

Deployed defensively, plays a bit of a dump and chase , cycle game. Always seems to put up points, over 50pts/82 games last 3 years. On pace for 58pts this year. If he’s on your 3rd line , you’re def competing for the cup. Could play very well on the 2nd line too with 2 really good guys. Can play the PK, PP and great at 5 v 5. I have no complaints about his game but he will be a free agent after next year around 29 years old so I’m not sure re-signing him is an option

I’ll take you on the Sens for him. That’s a good 1 for 1

For Zub, Barron and pick(s), maybe a guy like Jost to balance the cap.

Right now, I wouldn't trade Brown or Zub unless the offer was insanely good, or "an offer he can't refuse" - Don Corleone

I’d do that imo. Barron or Helleson would be good with me

Why all the Zub trades now? I haven’t seen any news on him.

Zub trade proposals just bum me out. Guy is a important part of our team. Miss the chabby-zub pairing so much

Because there are some astute fans on CF and not just home town flunkies. @csick is one of those folks who knows it’s interesting talking hockey and not just dumb one sided trade ideas. I don’t think there was really any news to speak of though besides Sens scouting Wings vs COL

I heard of rumours that it might not actually be Colorado but a potential Brannstrom - Zadina trade. Take it with a grain of salt tho , that’s what I’m doing

Already gave my offer for Brown a while ago. I'm just waiting for a Habs fan to offer you Price or Drouin tbh.

Problem is the Sens need Brown and Zub MORE than the teams they would be trading them to

Unless they have no intention to compete in the next few years.

Zub I’d keep but I’m all for trading Brown. Can’t see them keeping him at around 5 mill for the 3rd line when we have Formenton, Pinto, White, Sokolov, Greig, Jarventie, Stutzle in our middle 6 right now and probably another top 10 pick or guy we acquire .

If you watch every Sens game, you know how much Brown impacts the game in all aspects for Ottawa. He would be extremely hard to replace. Pinto and Stutzle are centers, Formenton and Greig are LWs (or Center for Greig). Jarventie is a pure offensive winger PP weapon, Sokolov doesn't have the foot speed. Really, we have no one to do what Brown does on RW . We have Colin White who is poor man's Brown maybe if he finally learns to stay healthy and be more consistent. I like White the person but I'd rather buy him out, then Sign Connor Brown to White's contract.

And even if we had a prospect like Brown for RW, the number of years it would take for him to become as good, Batherson/Chabot/Tkachuk contracts would be near expiring and your window of contention shrinking

That's the problem here, you just CANNOT GO YOUTH ALL IN, you need solid vets too and Brown is the only one we have (unless you count Zub and Paul as vets? But they have very little NHL experience for their age)

If we want to add another 6 mill + forward in our top 6 , we cannot afford Brown unfortunately even with a White buyout . Unless the plan is to add no one and wait for our top 10 pick to be ready in a year or two. Then Brown probably gets re-signed

We can do pretty much anything we want with our cap situation. Problem is you need someone to approve the checks.

If you're going to bring in an expensive winger, then yes you may have to buy out White and trade Zaitsev with a pick or with retention. There's so many things you can do when you have money

Sens are totally fine vs the cap now and going forward, if they WANT to. Keep in mind the cap will also resume to rise again. Problem is Ottawa is a market that might struggle to follow

Edit : and of course, you don't sign Zub, Brown and Paul to 7-8 years contract. 4-5 years each. You'd even have the option to bridge some young players so they are not costly like Tkachuk right away

With White, Murray and Zaitsev gone , we will have cap issues in 3 years

Not sure what you mean here... Do you mean the opposite lol?

15.5 off the books is significant

Just this year, you also have Tierney, Sanford and Josh Brown off the books, next year you have Del Zotto and Watson.

Players that will be replaced by Pinto, Crookshank, JBD and Tyler Boucher.

One of the easiest cap to manage outside of Arizona of course.
