No thanks. Not interested in the player at that price.

Avs decline quite easily. Bertuzzi would be a hassle to deal with due to his unvaccinated status, and while I like Wallinder, the Avs are in a win-now mode, so we'd want a middle-pairing defenseman and a middle-6 forward with term. But anyhow, Byram isn't available.

...But if he were, I'd want the deal to involve Fabbri and Hronek.

Saw the title and knew it was an instant decline. The thought of trading the unvaccinated one with his last name to COL is comical. I mean the dude can’t even play in CAN. Hard fast easy no for COL, Byram falls into the same category as MacK, Makar and Mikko untouchable.

Bert just doesn't have the value without being able to play in Canada

Neither team does that. Detroit doesnt because of Byram's injury history, and COL doesn't because of Bertuzzi's inability to play in Canada for the time being.

Wings fans will get mad at this, but Byram has been on the same level as Seider. He doesn't get pp1 time or as many minutes due to Colorado's depth, but he certainly looks like a future star. You simply don't move a guy like that.

The injury thing certainly throws a wrinkle into things, but Byram still has more value to the Avs than anyone would probably pay.

I am not a fan of either team and have nothing for or against either player.

While it certainly would be wise to let Byram's development to play out and not move him, to make that comparison is quite a leap.

I also would not make this trade if I was Colorado.

The stats back up my claim. If the roles were reversed and Byram was (a) healthy and (b) playing big minutes for Detroit, there is nothing in the numbers that suggests he wouldn't be having just as impressive of a season. Obviously trends are one thing, and we would have to actually see it happen, but that's what his small sample size suggests.

I'm not trying to argue who is better or anything like that. Just saying that Colorado will be looking at trading Byram through a similar lense as Detroit would about trading Seider (i.e. they simply won't do it for anything less than a ridiculous steal).

I don't think Byram should be traded, but hes playing with Girard and Makar and toews over 75% of his even strength minutes and on a good team and seider is playing with Dekeyser, Oesterle and Leddy over 85 % of his ES minutes and on a bad team and playing a lot more minutes, and tougher minutes at that. I think Seider is clearly better at this point in their careers.

Obviously it will be impossible to directly compare players on different teams for reasons you point out, but there is a lot to like about what Byram has done. Not sure if the links below will work, but a lot of this stuff goes Byram's direction.

I say all this as someone who was against Byram at #4OA but has since been won over. I also say this as someone who really, really likes Seider. And again, I'm not necessarily arguing that Byram is better or will be better. Just pointing out the type of player his limited playing time suggests he'll be and why he's essentially untouchable.
