The rebuild died and was a waste of time the second they signed Panarin and traded for Trouba. They’ll be stuck in a teetering position of should we go for it or wait cause those guys are older and the rest of the team is so young. They screwed the entire thing up and now we’re gonna have to watch it all crumble.

I see it that they need a 2C on an ELC. They have that and move Barron to 3C and Goodrow to 4C and this team would be pretty good. Only problem is where we are getting that from.

I too questioned those 2 moves/signings beforehand- the answer back was that players like that on the team would help nurture the youngsters through the rebuild...to prevent a team in a perpetual rebuild. I begrudgingly accepted that answer...but a few years later I admit those were good moves to make. Don't love Trouba's contract- but the team being relevant and a playoff contender while the young guys gain traction is a good thing. Continuing losing can become a habit...look what BUF went through...and the Isles before Trotz. BUT...I will add- if the team becomes beholden to Panarin's, Kreider's, or Trouba's "window"...that is a very bad thing. It will force stupid "win for now" moves- the types of moves which necessitated the rebuild in the first place!

So for now, with the assets they have compiled- the rebuild is not yet over...the fruits of the rebuild are just starting to come forward. Schneider looks like he might be a foundation of a great D (of course w/ Fox, Miller, etc). Othmann is killing it in his D+1 year. Korczak is taking strides. And there are at least 5 to 6 others that still project as NHL regulars...Maybe 1 or a few of these guys is in a package for the 2C you speak of? Or maybe with the picks they still have that future 2C is with his hockey mom- as we write- going to a clinic...about to be drafted this year or next? Patience is needed...just hope Drury has it!!

Agreed. I hope he works out.

I can see it being this next season

Kreids/Zibby/Laf
Bread/Korc/Kakko
Goodrow/Barron/Othmann
Hunt/Rooney/Reaves

I hope that’s our reality.

That’s all I want. Just some patience with this team. I think it could turn into something really special if we exercised it.

probably a bit much to expect Korczak to make the jump all the way to 2C...but Miller as 2C buys another year of time for a young C to develop....McCann might even be a better option- and probably could be cheaper than Miller. McCann is RFA this summer...one more year then he can go UFA. Either Miller or McCann would be a great fit on this team...but either would signify the end of Strome here.

Ya to be honest I’ve only seen his stats and don’t even know if he or the other guy is good at faceoffs. Assuming we keep our 1st for this years draft we might even play him as 2C if he is a C(I hope they draft a C). But if any of our prospects are good at faceoffs and can either play a good 2way game or highly offensive then I’d like to see them at 2C with Bread and Kakko

I wouldn't make any decision based largely on faceoff wins...I get the frustration with seeing NYR consistently getting owned at the dot...but there is so much more to the C position than faceoffs. That said- 2C does have to have better #'s than Chytl's dismal faceoff %!

Chytil and Strome will both be gone I think. There’s also a lot of C in FA this year so it could be interesting if any of them want to make the NYR move seeing where this team stands and that the window just opened

For sure some quality C's out there UFA this summer...but no cap space to entertain- unless one of Trouba, Kreider, or Panarin is moved. Don't think this is happening. Miller to NYR w/ 1/2 retained would (at the moment) work. Strome on a VERY team friendly contract ext might work. But guys like Kadri, Hertl, Bergeron, Pavelski, or Giroux will probably be looking for big money.

Ya, I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the older guys take a longer contract that’s front loaded with a lower aav knowing that the last year or 2 could be LTIR or buyout bait

I guess to a man it comes down to what’s more important: maximize $ and term? Or accept a little less- but with a good opportunity to raise the Cup…I’m thinking just about any team expected to be a contender the next few years has a Cap situation which would inhibit making a max offer to any of the big UFAs
