Dubas already said we arent trading Niemala and this years 1st. So you would have to switch them out for next years 1st and Hirvonen, which Arizona probably doesn't take.

This might be his last year as a GM in Toronto if we don't do anything in the playoffs this year... again. If he's going to be stubborn and not make the team better, then so be it, maybe he should be fired if he had the opportunity to make the team better but he chose to be stubborn. I just really hope Kyle knows what an "all in" year is.

I mean, we went "all in" last year and look where it got us. There are ways to improve the team without giving up your entire future. I agree with Dubas on this one, we have given up way too many picks and prospects over the last few years, and with Amirov's future in doubt its too risky to give away our biggest assets.

I would think it would start with Sandin then you would have to add. Not Niemela, even though he is a good prospect. If I was going to trade Chychrun, I would personally want a LHD coming back.

It's just way too risky to have your job on the line because you don't want to give up your late first rounder and a nice prospect to make your defensive core, which is one of the team's main problems, better

You're acting like hes not willing to trade anything. The only untouchables are Knies, Niemela, and this years 1st. If he can't get a rental D with Robertson, Hirvonen, every other prospect, roster players, and future 1sts then he shouldnt be a GM.

Dermott is the left d they would get. They can give him the opportunity to see if he can be anything more than he has shown in Toronto. Really can’t see sandin going in this deal. He’s only 2 years younger than chychurn and has great potential.
Move Niemila if that’s what it takes, he might end up being great but he won’t help the team the next couple seasons.
For a 23 year old dman with term and low cap hit, he is worth moving.

Dermott isn’t a very good defence man. He isn’t going to be better than a bottom pair defence man. If Sandin isn’t in the trade, I don’t think they would do it. If there is a good young defence man on a team, I think they would want him. I don’t think they would trade him without getting that left shot defence man. Niemela is good, but again, is not a LHD. Without Chychrun, their LHD chart in the NHL, and for prospects is looking thin. It will be interesting to see what they get, if they decide to trade Chychrun, but all I’m saying is I believe they would want a good LHD if there is one on a team.

I mean maybe but if they cared that much about their left side d wouldn’t they just keep chychrun?
I think niemila is a good enough prospect to be a centre piece of this. Generally harder to find right shot d than left as well.

I still don’t understand this, just because he’s a left shot? He’s young, elite penalty killer, big body, signed long term and cheap. Fits the timeline of the core.
Only thing wrong is he’s a left shot but Arizona are playing him on the right side the last few games.
What if Tampa had this same attitude about McDonagh because they had hedman and sergachev? I honestly don’t get it.
It might take some work to optimize the lineup initially but either chychrun will be fine on the right side or you go Rielly, chychrun, sandin on the left for 2 or 3 years once muzzin is most likely traded. Even if muzzin is on the team next year he probably won’t play more than half the season the way he’s health has been.

If they want to rebuild for a long time, and are scared Chychrun will walk, they will trade him. Also, if they get a good package, they will trade him. I agree it’s harder to find good RHD, than LHD, but if they are giving a top LHD, they will want a good one coming back. Keep in mind, they have Soderstrom, and Timmons on the right side for RHD prospects, so I would think they would want LHD guys..

Its because you already have Brodie. Unlike wingers Defense is a position that is mich more important to have a mix of left and right handed shots. You can get away with 1 off hand in the top 4 but usually not 2. Notice how Sergachev almost always played 3rd pair

You are assuming a lot here. Muzzin is not going to waive his NTC and then you are assuming he misses half the season.
