Moving Johnson and Maxing Out for Naz - Next Year

Created by: Anus_McLeod
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2022
Published: Feb. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The entire idea here is that Kadri signs an absolutely ludicrous one year deal and then re-signs for another 3-4 years at $5.5M or so. If you combine the two contracts, it's equivalent to either 4 years at $7.375M AAV or 5 years at $7M AAV, depending on whether the second deal is for 3 or 4 more years.

Circumvention you say? Perhaps. But can you prove it? Lol.

In any case, this would potentially allow the team to keep their top 6 and top 4 together longer term (see year 2).

Trades
1.
COL
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Good leadership guy to have until the younger players come into their own. I know they have Tuch, but another veteran voice in the room would be worth a 3rd imo. Could be a 4th though I guess.
2.
COL
  1. 2022 5th round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Anaheim may be looking to replace at least one defenseman, and Johnson can still play. He's overpaid, but he's a good acquisition for a low pick and would very likely re-sign there for cheap (he either lives in Cali or at least spends a lot of time there).

I doubt the Ducks will just simply take Johnson off their hands like that. The Avs will probably need to add a good pick in order to trade him.

You're probably right. He's still a good player, but without retention it's a tough pill to swallow. In reality I think Colorado just keeps him. Thought this was a fun, outside the box type of acgm though.

There's really no logical reason for Anaheim to save you from EJ's cap without being compensated to do so. You can get similar production for 1/3 of the price in free agency.

Read this one after I posted. I don't think he's bad, but you're right, it's an expense that the Ducks don't really need. Cheers!
