The one season that Samsonov played with Holtby he thrived, this tandem would be good because you have Holtby who can be a high quality starter and play in the playoffs. Samsonov would finally unlock his potential and be an elite starter in a year or two

They would be quite foolish not to take that

If I'm the oilers id rather spend real assets and actually finally get a real goaie, so no the oilers shouldn't trade for another career backup and hope for them to become something, trade for a real deal and pay fro what you get

Ignoring cost to acquire here oilers have a young inexperienced guy expecting to be full time next in skinner so they will want someone more experienced to split the load.

Career backup? Vanecek has been at least a 1b goalie for his entire NHL career, and you value Savoie too high. If anything WSH should be getting slightly more for VV.

Both wrong as Vanecek is actually not a backup but a talented young goalie that will definitely be a starter next year

Just cus you say he's gonna be a starter next yer doesn't make him a starter, he's played behind smasonov for as long as he's been in the league and samsonov hasn't even been that great so what does that say abt vanechek, lol no reason for him to just become a starter or be worth assets that can be used for better goalies

Actually this reason he has been the starter above Samsonov it’s just that he’s been injured recently
