MSL equal StOnKs

Initial Creation Date: Feb. 28, 2022
Published: Feb. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The arrival of MSL is really driving the price of our players upwards... However, we are running the risk of losing our pick to Arizona if we get out of the top 10.

Which would be a catastrophe. Therefore we need to sell high and GUT the team before its too late.

That is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too kind to Vegas. Gotta take advantage of those fools for clearing so much cap.

Yeah, Canes pass. As I said on the Canes side of this trade

    Dvorak < KK
    Suzuki > Lehkonen

If the picks are going the other way, it's closer, but still not great.

Vegas are OK for cap space....Martinez and Stone are still on LTIR and will be.

The only people being suckered in by a Chiarot trade are Habs fans thinking they'll get a 1st for him.

First of all, their cap strife doesn't end with this season. Secondly, forgive me for being highly skeptical that this team is following the rules and not pulling a fast one.

We'll see at TD - but I feel like all fan base involved will be disappointed - habs fans, by the return... the unlucky team, obtaining Chariot.

It’s almost impossible to get outside of the top 10. I believe it’s post lottery that it’s determined so…
With the lottery determining 2 winners, we would need to at least finish 8th to guarantee ourselves a top 10 pick. Even if we finish 9th or 10th, it would also take 1-2 teams with super slim odds to win the lottery to win one of them or even both depending on if we finish 9th or 10th.

So 24th placed team in the league is 13 points up with 29 games to go. Let’s say super optimistically that we win 20-9, which would be top 5 in the league pace, the 24th place team would 13-16 which, granted, is very possible. That being said, if we play .500 hockey and go 15-14 in the remaining 29 games, the 24th placed team needs to 9-20, which is pretty bad. And this is for 8th to last place. It would still take teams behind us in the lottery odds to win both lotteries which is extremely low odds.

Keep in mind, our top goalie right now is Andrew Hammond and while he has played well, he’s not rattling off 20 wins and we will be getting rid of more players over the next few weeks.

All this to say, it would be very unlikely for us to fall outside of top 10. I’d say it’s pretty unlikely we pick out of top5 even.

Why would Carolina consider giving up the better players? KK has been way better than Dvorak this year, and for the better part of the year until MSL came in, had more goals than the Habs had wins. Lehkonen wont even crack the Canes roster. Lorentz and Martinook are playing some of the best hockey of their career right now, and Stepan is chomping at the bit to get onto the roster. Lehkonen wont beat out Fast or Jarvis either, and he doesn’t play center, so that would rule out KK too. It would be a waste of assets to acquire Lehkonen. I would be fine with a Dvorak acquisition, but I don’t think that the Habs will trade him until he plays a couple games under MSL to try and recover his value. Taking into account his contract, he is worth at least a second, but the Habs are going to want about what they gave up for him, and right now they won’t get that.

I believe that Dvorak has untapped potential that hasn’t been seen since he was in the OHL. I also believe that if anyone can pull the potential out it would be Brindy. I would love to see Dvorak play for the Canes, and he would be a perfect fit for the Canes.

    Counter offer:
Habs: 2023 first round pick, Ryan Suzuki, Conditional 2024 2nd round pick (Conditions: If Carolina wins the Stanley Cup in either 2022 or 2023, Montreal gets the pick. If they don’t win the Stanley Cup in either of those years, Montreal gets a 2024 5th round pick.)
Arizona: Dvorak (from Montreal), Carolina’s 2023 second round pick
Carolina: Dvorak (from Arizona) 50% retained, Montreal’s 2022 6th round pick

How do people feel about this trade?
