The Kotkaniemi ship has sailed, it's time to move on and look forward. And I really don't want him to use his QO as leverage.

Invisibly meh.

If him and his agent request $6 million AAV on his next contract, the Canes trade him or let him walk into UFA.

Not a pretty picture.

So you don't watch Canes games... he's been excellent in his role. Very sheltered yes, but a big reason the 4th line is actually putting pucks in.

This is a pretty easy no from Carolina.

Lehkonen < Suzuki
Dvorak < Kotkaniemi

Pick is going the wrong way

Are you going to pay him $6+ million for his bottom 6 forward role ?

No, which is why he's reportedly in negotiations with the team around the 4.5 mark and a deal is close (Lebrun, Athletic)

The report is 4-4.5, and it's close. That was Lebrun a few weeks ago. It got really close when KK was in protocol, but since he got out he's wanted to stay focused about on-ice stuff.

The chance Ryan Suzuki becomes as good Lehkonen is are under 15%

Lehkonen is a defensively fantastic forward with offensive issues. He's a 3rd liner, possibly lower, on a contender. Suzuki has that upside 100%, and at a more valuable position, I wouldn't give him up 1 for 1.

Yes is position is more valuable, but because of is injury to the eye and he never had that top 6 upside, Lehkonen is worth more

Suzu has always had top 6 upside. That's why he was taken in the first round by one of the best organizations in hockey in the draft... Suzuki's eye injury is way overtalked about. There's a millimeter wide blind spot on the inside of his eye, where the stick caught him. It doesn't impair his vision... he's worth more than a pending UFA bottom sixer.

First, Lehkonen isn’t a pending UFA
Second, Suzuki never had top 6 potential
That doesn’t mean he can’t become one, but we are acting like every 1st RD & 2nd RD pick have top 6 upside for the forwards and top 4 upside for the dmans but what only 20% hits that ?

Just because they don't meet their potential doesn't mean they don't have that upside. Almost every 1st rounder WILL have that kind of upside, and Suzu is no different. There's a reason he was taken ahead of so many others. He has top 6 upside.

Sorry, Lehkonen is a pending RFA with a QO of 2.3 mil and ages out of restricted free agency three days after it starts.

Alright, if Suzuki didn’t have at all top 6 upside, would it be fair to trade a solid 3rd liner for someone who doesn’t have top 6 upside ? No. Now, it depends how you see R. Suzuki development and if Lehkonen is what you need to bring the team another level above. I don’t think CAR needs a Lehkonen that badly, Chiarot would be more valuable IMO

No. Lehkonen is a luxury. Chiarot is a pylon. I'd rather get Lindholm, Manson, Chychurn, Soucy, Giordano, literally almost anyone else.

Lindholm Chychrun are gonna cost a lot
Giordano Chiarot probably a 1st + prospect
Soucy DeHaan a 2nd
IMO they are in good order of best to worse
