Why would you ever want Subban back? He’s on the backend of his career and is a shadow of who he was 5-6yrs ago. Plus you’d have three RD in their mid 30yrs when those contracts are done.

It's not that we are defensive over Pettersson, it's that Hoffman is a black hole at 5v5 and that contract isn't worth it.

He is slightly overpaid, but the Pens have a 54% goals for when he is on the ice. They control shots and scoring chances pretty well too. He is a quality defender with limited offensive upside. Decent passer, terrible shot. I just don't see where Hoffman would be impactful. He would get limited PP minutes and his 5v5 play isn't good enough to take his contract on.
