???? Why Arizona want Hoffman and his contract. Jordan Harris can be a UFA this summer, his trade value is minimal.
Why would the Wings trade for a goalie who may not never not play? Wings like their 3 m goalie better. Is Petry is really worth 6.25m X 3

I don't know what the idea is behind the Price trade, but it makes no sense to retain, add two players and a prospect, then flip him for another goaltender and a 5th.

Habs top priority is moving contracts and generating cap space. This 3 way deal saves the Habs approx 15.25 mill. Need that money for free agent frenzy in July. Sadly Habs will never get good value or fair value for a healthy Price. Detroit may be desperate seeing that Nedeljkovic and Griess have been meh

Its assumed that Price is healthy by early July. There's a market for him at 6 mill/yr if he's healthy. Nedeljkovic and Greiss have been meh and Price is better than them even at 35. As well, likely Leddy, DeKeyser and Staal are gone this off-season and Petry could fill a need ... plus he's from Michigan. His trade value will go up rest of season as he continues to play better with St. Louis as coach

I swear I was using logic and common sense for this ACGM. - every troll post ever

What incentive (other than money) would Forsberg and Letang have to sign in Montreal? Detroit also won’t be trading for Price and Petry, both of which would have very little value to the wings right now. The right side of the blue line is already a bit cramped with Seider, Hronek, and Lindstrom, so there is no need to acquire Petry. They need LD more than they need RD. And in terms of Price, there isn’t a guarantee that he will even play again, so no one is going to trade for him, let alone give up their cheap, young goalie. Plus, Arizona doesn’t want not need those pieces for their rebuild, and there isn’t enough value to make Arizona consider retaining on a Price deal.

NYR and NSH are drastically overpaying. Kulak at best draws a 6th, a 5th if the acquiring GM is stupid. Colorado has no need for Perrault, and their cap space is better off being used elsewhere.

And then Detroit is stuck with an old expensive goalie. Doesn’t help anyone but Montreal.

Also: can’t sign Forsberg for 8 years. For what its worth, Friedman said if the number for Forsberg is $9M or less, he’ll re-sign.

I really don’t understand why people can’t grasp the habs Hughes & Gorton said they won’t be retaining salary. It’s a non starter...might take a high salary back for the remainder of the year only.

They don't need to move Price. If he comes back healthy, great. If he doesn't, he joins Weber on LTIR. Either way we don't need cap relief until there's a reason to use it. There's no reason to use it this year.

We aren't in a position to spend until the roster is constructed and developed well enough to justify outside additions. We need further evaluation, under a permanent coach (StL is interim) before identifying those issues.
If Petry departs, we need a RHD at least temporarily, but forget any high priced UFAs. Lyubushkin, sure. Letang, no. That's it for immediate needs.

The next 2 free agent pools are where we should be spending money. Can reassess after next season.

They can put the captaincy on Letang for the next 4 years and give him a leadership spot. Price will request to be traded this offseason because he will not be part of a rebuild. It's more likely he'll be healthy this offseason than injured. This 3 way saves Habs 15 mill and that's there #1 priority; clearing cap space.

Its another flat cap so unlikely Forsberg gets a huge payraise over 9 mill. Probably 8.5 mil/yr. Habs could do it for 7yr / 60 mil

Right. So Friedman was saying if that’s the number he’s staying in nashville, and they can offer 8 years.

Price can prevent a trade, but he can't force Montreal to take losses to make one happen. There are many ways to move Price without including other assets as incentive.

It makes sense for a top contender at the cap limit to pay to dump contracts. It doesn't make sense for a basement team whatsoever.
Montreal is a couple years away from it being a concern, and it will be easier to deal with the longer they wait.

As for Letang, no point moving Petry if we're going to bring in another $7M guy of the same age for the same length of time.

With Simon Benoit, Brendan Guhle, Jakob Larsson and Josh Mahura all having put in time this year at bottom-pairing LD, why would we be paying for Brett Kulak again? I missed the first explanation.
