New Rumor in the Athletic

Created by: Campabee
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2022
Published: Mar. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
New rumor in the athletic today PK Subban (half retained) for Joel Armia, would you do it?
Trades
MTL
  1. Subban, P.K. ($4,500,000 retained)
NJD
  1. Armia, Joel
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Not the exact trade (I don't subscribe to the athletic so I don't know the details) but I figure if we are moving 2 extra years we need to add at a 3rd or decent prospect. Maybe we add one of Tuch, Struble or Trudeau instead of the 3rd, really depends on NJ's needs/wants

If its straight up or a small sweetener (not tuch or struble but a 3rd rounder is fine) I think the habs would be all over that.

They could pretty easily recover the 3rd round pick if they then turn around and flip PK at the deadline. Either way they would free up that money long term.

It would be at the deadline and keeping him for at least the rest of the year.

They wouldnt have to keep him. He doesnt have any trade protections to stop from being flipped again.

No but, our RD is in need of help and PK would likely fit into MSL system quite well. I know he is controversial but he is the type of top 4 RHD we need and he likes to be in Montreal. If we can resign him to say Chiarot money over the summer then its just an added bonus.

EDIT *** Added bonus is, what if we squeak into the playoffs next year and Weber decides on one more shot. Imagine a RD of Weber-Petry-Subban or a top pairing of Petry-Weber and second pairing of Edmundson-Subban

No just no. He is 33 in a few months, not playing in the top 4 in NJD (a non playoff team) and has back problems.

He is NOT a top 4 RD going forward.

There is nothing in the Athletic about Subban to Montreal. Read the article again, it only sites that the Athletic report that Subban is on the trade block. The rest is just "reporting" from a fan blog.

You titled this "New Rumor in the Athletic" and explained it as "New rumor in the athletic today PK Subban (half retained) for Joel Armia, would you do it?"

That rumour is not in the Athletic and the article you cited doesn't say that it is from the Athletic. It only said "In a report by The Athletic, the New Jersey Devils have officially put former Norris Trophy winner P.K. Subban on the trade block and are willing to retain half of his $9 million salary."

Ok, now read the trade description! Here I will post it here for you

That's fine, but there is literally nothing in the Athletic about Subban to Montreal. Nothing at all. You misread the fanblog post.

Actually, I assumed the athletic had posted a rumor considering that the Fan site report as much said so. I had no way of knowing they hadn't because once again I don't subscribe. I would have assumed that everyone could fact check for themselves and have better things to do than to argue about whether the title of a thread was accurate or not and just comment on the question being asked. I guess I just ask too much of humanity! Respect and decency are so hard!

Again, that's not what the fan site said.

As for the actual proposal, it makes no sense for either team.
