cassidy wants more pricks

Created by: Dekes
Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2022
Published: Mar. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rakell replaces debrusk on 1st line, good goal scorer that will surely play much better given his linemates skill level

copp will start off as 2C but if the line isn't working i can see haula going back to 2C as he has done very well there then copp Moves down to LW3 and forms a very strong defensive line with coyle and smith, would definitely be a good line to help take some reps away from bergys line on guarding the more elite offensive lines

dillon is another big strong defensive dman for the bruins, as of late bruins have been playing a much better physical brand of hockey and as cassidy said he wants the defence to play like pricks and i think dillon would do a very good job at that i think in certain situations you could even play dillon and carlo together to form a very large defensive pairing this pairing would most likely be used in times where bruins are trying to hold a 1 goal lead and just need to big guys infront of the net to make it difficult for shots to get through or for players to get better inside high danger chances

I think this team would be very good defensively and the additions of copp and dillon would definitely help with trying to have a stronger physical presence on the ice aswell

Also grammar correction on the debrusk trade

" debrusk has not* looked out of place on the first line"

freddy and foligno could also switch spots on the 4th line but id rather freddy he has been very solid on both ends of the ice lately and he is starting to play more like his old self getting in fights laying big hits and standing up for his teammates
Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Copp, Andrew ($1,820,000 retained)
  2. Dillon, Brenden
WPG
  1. Beecher, John [Reserve List]
  2. 2022 1st round pick (BOS)
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
before people trash beecher go look at his advanced analytics, beecher has actually been very solid on both ends of the ice and has proven to be a threat offensively his point totals have reflected to bad puck luck as his expected offence point numbers show he should be producing at a much higher rate
not saying he is some A tier prospect or anything but i think he will be a very solid 2 way 3rd liner in the future his game style if of a very fast charlie coyle
2.
BOS
  1. Rakell, Rickard ($1,850,000 retained)
  2. 2022 5th round pick (TOR)
ANA
  1. DeBrusk, Jake
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
debrusk is proving he can play LW and RW as of late and i think he would fit nicely into anaheims top 6 assuming they sell on a few guys like rakell currently in the top 6. debrusk needs faster paced skilled linemates, i think he got too much hate for last season when he was stuck on a line with nick ritchie and an injured coyle neither of them being fast players, debrusk has always proven he can succeed when given linemates that more suite his style of play

i think if he was lined up with either one of terry or zegras he would continue producing quite well he currently has 9 points in his last 5 games and has looked out of place on that first line

anaheim also had scouts at the Bruins/ LA game which just so happened to be a 4 point night for debrusk so maybe they will find him enticing

what if bruins remove the 5th from anaheim and add either a 4th or 5th from another year?

A good prospect, a 1st, and a 2nd, and all you walk away with is a few months of copp, and freaking Dillon on the top pair?

Aim higher.

dillon can play 19-21 minutes a night he is strong defensively and physically and copp i would assume would want to resign in boston maybe exchange a 2nd for a 3rd but i think both copp and dillon would be great fits in boston

Oh my goodness, 19 minutes? You don’t say. What you’re doing is just adding more of what is already in boston. “Okay,” players getting paid a bit too much. Just look at what you have on the left side next season under this scenario:
Grzelcyk - 3.6 - good.
Dillon - 3.8 - meh
Reilly - 3 - meh
Forbort - 3 - bleh
Moore - 2.75 - puke.
Vaakanainen, and Zboril, playing great and not finding ice time.

Going out and getting someone that is okay and can eat 19-21 minutes is useless.

zboril is injured for the season and is vaak gonna be ready for playoff hockey yes he is a solid two way defencemen but he isn't physical at all, one thing that always hurts B's in playoffs is the lack of physicality and size we have look at some of the last few teams we lost too in playoffs outside of tampa we lost too st louis, NYI and ottawa all 3 of those teams we were much more skilled then and had an overall better roster but all 3 of those teams played a much more physical game then us every year we have so many injuries in playoffs becuase we just get beat up so bad we have no one to protect our stars and not enough guys that throw big hits and make sure the other team knows that if you wanna pick on our stars we will pick on yours both copp and dillon change that both of them play hard hit hard and don't shy away from physicality or when the game gets chippy

I said this was for next season.

As for this season, i don’t see a huge difference between forbort, grzelcyk, and reilly, and Dillon replacing one of those guys. Still missing the same thing. Still have the same thing.

in terms of physicality dillon isn't a massive increase over cliffy but in term of who is stronger defensively dillon is quite a bit better

having a 6'4+ defender on each line will be very useful in playoffs
each line gets a dman who is strong offensively and defensively

Dilion (DD) Mcavoy (TWD)
Grzz(TWD better offensively) Carlo( DD)
Forbort(DD) Reilly(OFD)

personally those lines look very solid to me

2018-19 St louis outside of dunn and pietrangelo had 4 defensive dman and that worked very well for them they showed that as much as scoring from the defence is needed, come playoffs having a bigger stronger more physical D line-up is more important that a more offensive orientated one like what colorado has been rocking the last while

parayko, bouwmeester, gunnarsson and bortuzzo made it hell for our small skilled guys like pasta, marchy krech and debrusk to try and get inside for better scoring chances but st louis did not have the same struggles when their forwards got to face soft dmen like grzz and krug outside of chara and miller st louis never really had to worry about get rocked and beat up when driving into the middle of the ice

I have no interest in seeing reilly on his off side.

If you’re going to pay up as you are here, target someone that would really help.
