I’m a R.Lavoie fan. Love his size and versatile to play both Center and RW. And don’t mind the right handed-shot either. Something Pens prospects lack.

And Edmonton needs cheap wing help which D.Simon provides. And some toughness and defense which ZAR definitely provides. ZAR is gonna have 200 “hits” this year. Has 160 in 43 games. And contributes enough offensively. And an expiring contract.

In your opinion they decline.

Why though?? They don’t need or want Shattenkirk? They would free up 2.9M in cap space next season. They get a young, 25 year old, Kappy, top 6 RW; mid 6 at worst. Still a RFA. Friedman still a RFA and cheap 3rd pairing RHD; cheap 7th D-man at worst. Plus a mid round pick.

Getzlaf is a rental. Same with N.Desluriers.

If they get a young NHL player as good as Kappy for Getzlaf I’d be surprised. Desluriers is gonna bring back a mid-round pick. If they can even trade him. Shattenkirk retaining 1M would probably bring back more than Friedman. But I think Kappy is upgraded value for Getzlaf too.

As a Pittsburgh fan, I would do both. These are kind of moves, that could work out well for us.
