The Canucks might, but OEL has a NMC so he would have to accept it.

Few things
1- idk what your fascination is with playing jgp on the 4th line but it makes no sense at all. Hes a great 3c and hes gettinh paid way too much to be a 4th line w.
A raty-44-21 and panik-53-27 bottom 6 makes so much more sense to me then 27-raty-21 and panik-53-44.
2- why not keep the pick and the cap space and keep bellows over kubalik?
3- making our 4th d our highest paid dman is a mistake. We need that cap for barzy and wahlstrom.
4- why would we walk dobson straight to FA. If im not mistaken a 4 year deal makes him a ufa without getting any ufa years. Sign him to an 8×44-48m deal.

JGP is not a great 3c at this point and I don't think he's going to suddenly improve, he's meant for a "4th line" role with Cizikas at this point. Putting Raty on the wing makes no sense, the isles need to do what Florida did with Lundell and give him every chance to win the 3c spot.

Kubalik is having a down year but he's fast and has an elite shot, I don't think Bellows has a future here anyways so might as well trade him for a good player.

In what way is jgp not a great 3c anymore. Bc he doesnt put up 65 points a season? Barry finally decided to put him with players that play his style and what do you know? Theyre constantly controlling play. As much as i love wahlstrom his mental lapses during games makes him a bad fit with jg. Its mind boggling how bad barrys been in terms of lineups but he finally almost got it right. Rn hes running

20-12-26

All he needs to do is wait till barzy comes back and slot him in for bailey.

Because he’s nowhere close to as good defensively as he used to be, he’s terrible in transition and on the forecheck.

The narrative that Wahlstrom has mental lapses is 100% false, he makes mistakes like everyone else on the team, but does so much less. Interesting that when Wahlstrom is on the same line with Pageau , the line is great (because of Wahlstrom) and when Wahlstrom is away from Pageau his numbers are great. When Pageau is away from Wahlstrom his numbers for the most part are awful.

The reason why it seems like Wahlstrom struggles at times is because Pageau is an offensive blackhole who’s terrible in transition, sometimes Wahlstrom tries to do too much. Those arent mental lapses, Pageau does not see the game like he does which forces Wahlstrom into holding the puck too long.

Pageau + Wahlstrom :
2.39 goals for per 60, 1.74 goals against per 60

Wahlstrom without Pageau:
3.08 goals for per 60, 2.15 goals against per 60

Pageau without Wahlstrom:
1.38 goals for per 60, 2.78 goals against per 60.

Players who actually have mental lapses almost every game:
Bailey
Lee
Pageau
Cizikas
Martin
Mayfield
Chara

Wahlstrom can drive his own line as long as the players are somewhat competent offensively. The Parise -Pageau-Wahlstrom line has been a top 20 line this season, however the numbers show that Wahlstrom has elite potential away from that line because Parise and Pageau are bottom 6 forwards at this point in their careers, while they control play they can’t finish

Tbf wahly had a great game tonight.

As for your list, take out jgp and casey and put in brock. Hes a good player but almost every game he has that 1 play that makes you go wtf.

Putting the words per 60 doesnt change the fact that youre literally using plus freakin minus to evaluate players in 2022. Thats pathetic. Calling jgp an offensive black hole is ****, and terrible in transition? Tell me you dont watch the isles without telling me you dont watch the isles. And your next statement is inherently false. Sometimes trying to do too much is a mental lapse. While trotz is biased towards the older guys you are biased towards the younger guys. Its ok for a 21yo to not be a top 20 player in the league.

Pageau's turnover in the ozone led to Vancouvers 3rd goal, I have no idea who he was passing to. No doubt Pageau is a good player, he's a unique player for sure - but He's very average during the regular season , he's able to turn into a top 6 caliber forward in the playoffs

GF/60 is one of the best stats to show true offensive impact. Even if you go to expected goals, Pageau grades out terrible. How come Wahlstrom increases the rate the isles score goals whether he's on Pageau's line or not, but pageau really struggles to make a consistent impact without Wahlstrom. Whatever numbers you'd like to use, Wahlstrom is among the leaders on the isles, you have to use per 60 rates for Wahlstrom because he gets shafted by the coach, it puts him on the same level as the rest of the forwards and shows what he's able to do in limited Ice time.

Pageau is an offensive blackhole this season and his transition stats are terrible. This isn't my opinion , its a fact.

I'm not biased at all, I think Bellows and Aho are terrible - Salo didn't do enough to earn a spot in the lineup right now. Most isles fans who criticize wahlstrom have no idea what theyre talking about,

All stats from Evolving Hockey

EVO (Even Strength Offense)
Wahlstrom : 3.3
Pageau : -1.5

PPO (Powerplay offense)
Wahlstrom : 0.9
Pageau: -0.9

Goals above replacement :
Wahlstrom: 4.4
Pageau: -1.7

Wins Above Replacement
Wahlstrom: 0.8
Pageau: -0.3

Literally every metric shows Pageau has been trash this season, especially offensively. Wahlstrom is 5x the player he is right now.

I can start showing you the difference between wahlstrom and pageau if you want, but its not the prettiest for your take. As for the 3rd goal tonight it happened bc they couldnt get the puck out of the zone. Palmieri had and had it taken away and palmieri and dobson both watching pettersson. Saying thats on jg is asinine. Although the decision to pass and not shoot there was very puzzling.

Please show me the difference, I would love someone to try to prove me wrong on Wahlstrom. Wahlstrom has the better rate numbers, underlying numbers, he's better at everything. All pageau has on him is face-offs.

Pageau gave up possession because of a mental lapse, it's very simple. If Pageau makes a smarter play, that goal doesn't happen.

Bellows is terrible eh? Sounds like youre just trying to appear unbiased with that take. Bellows has been great recently and so has jg. You talk about offensive production, take into account that wahlstrom starts roughly double the shifts in the o-zone than he does in the d-zone whereas pageau starts roughly 2/3s of the shifts in the o-zone than he does in the d-zone. Those are facts my friend as is the fact that pageau is scoring more goals than expected and wahlstrom is scoring less goals than expected.

Thats not true. Trying to pin that goal on pageau is mind numbing. Was it a bad play? Yeah. But if palmieri doesnt give it away in the d-zone or picks up hoglander instead of doubling pettersson in fromt of the net, that goal doesnt happen.
Its amazing how people see what they want to see. If pelechs feed to palmieri for the 2nd goal gets picked off, van almost for sure has an odd man rush and probably score. Then you would say it was a bad play even though rn i know you think it was a good play. A good or bad play isnt (or shouldnt) be determined by the result. Thats the mark of a bad evaluator, someone who sees things only for what they become.

Bellows has not been great, overall he is not a good player. He's not good defensively and he doesn't drive play offensively, he's an empty calorie scorer. Zone starts have almost 0 impact on production ,how are you using that as an argument in 2022. Pageau is just not a good possession player and when he's on the ice he doesn't do enough to create offensively,

When a player with the skillset like Wahlstrom is scoring less goals than expected , it means he is getting unlucky and positive regression will happen sooner than later. The fact that Wahlstrom Is scoring less goals than expected and still top 3 in every advanced offensive metric on the isles is impressive,

Pageau has had 825 minutes of ice time this season, Wahlstrom only 590. Wahlstrom destroys him in goals per 60 min...
Wahlstrom : 1.02 goals per 60
Pageau: 0.65 goals per 60

The difference is Pageau's pass was a low percentage play, it should have never been made. Pelech took a calculated risk to generate a high danger scoring chance.

Dont get me wrong pageau probably shouldve shot. But if palmieri one times that puck into the net youre praising that pass.

So idk where youre getting those numbers bc i have different numbers. Youre assertion about zone starts is ****. The more time you spend in the o-zone per 60 the higher expected goals youre inherently going to have. And the more shifts you start in the o-zone the more o-zone time youre going to get per 60.

So idk where youre getting those numbers bc i have different numbers. Youre assertion about zone starts is ****. The more time you spend in the o-zone per 60 the higher expected goals youre inherently going to have. And the more shifts you start in the o-zone the more o-zone time youre going to get per 60.

Both money puck and Evolving hockey have the same numbers for Pageau/Wahlstrom's rate numbers - not sure where you're getting your numbers from . '

Nope you're wrong. You must think face-offs have a significant impact on outcomes of games.

I read the article, pretty interesting actually, but heres the issue. Corsi is not necessarily correlated to xGoals. Especially in an islanders system that values quality over quantity and where guys are always trying to make the extra pass, players that dont have great corsi% might have very good xGoals. And the same for the other side, players that just throw the puck towards the net from wherever and have great corsi% might not have a lot of xGoals at all.
