One trade to become a contender

Created by: scarbrow21
Team: 2017-18 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 17, 2017
Published: Apr. 17, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jets really just need 3 things in order to clear the hurdle and start contending.

1) Continued growth/development from their young stars. The rookies are a year older, and have more experience and come back even harder next year.
2) Solid Veteran backup who doesn't cost much and the team can feel comfortable rolling with when and if Helley struggles. Kinkaid will be cheap, posts respectable numbers on a similarly bad D team in NJ and fits that bill instead of tying yourself to declining assets (like Bishop) for too much money and term.
3) A true Defensive Defenseman to play with Buff. Tanev is that guy. Underrated because he doesn't post a heck of a lot of offence but is reliable in his own end. This will also help the Jets goalies post better numbers as they won't be hung out to dry every period.

Vancouver is in rebuild. Tanev is very underrated and would most likely waive his NTC to come to WPG (he played for the Moose and actually was the one who convinced his brother to sign here as a College UFA).

He is a defensive D which would compliment Buff perfectly on a respectable contract. This also allows for one (or both) of Myers and Enstrom to be traded. Myers would have to come back and start the year strong to make sure there's no doubt about is previous years injury in order to have any sort of value. Or you keep both and go for it this year while all the young talent is still on ELCs because a 3rd pairing of Enstrom/Myers is solid depth. They also have a young Heiskanen, Poolman, Stanley, Nogier, and Niku who could all come up in the event of injuries.

That bottom 6 would get streamed rolled plus tanev is a RHD.

Yes, Tanev is a RHD. RHD can sometimes play LHD. If he can't, you trade Myers/use a young LHD in the pipeline paired with Tanev, and move Enstrom back with Buff and use the third pair as a pure shutdown D. Odds are he can play his off side.

The bottom 6 would NOT get steam rolled. Connor Ros Copp would drive play much like the triplets line of TB of old. Lowry rightfully plays 4th line C and would be excellent considering how he's been deployed already.

Yea Lowry and Armia are a fantastic shutdown duo and Tanev is an interesting option and realistic because his bro is here. Tanev is a RHD so would rather move for someone like Ekholm but Tanev could still work. Goalie situation isn't bad and I would love Heiskanen or Valimaki to come to the Peg, pretty nice.

Not one of the players on your 3rd line has shown that they can drive a line. None. Connors skills are as a volume shooter. Copp has never driven play in his NHL career he has the opposite effect so thats a lot of heavy lifting for a rookie in Roslovic.

NTC starts july 1st so he could be traded before then with no issues and its a very limited ntc where he only chooses 8 teams he wont go to.
