No he's not it a freaking buyer's market the east teams are pretty much set and the west maybe 10 for 8 so between teams being out and sellers and teams with McDonald's money for cap space the returns are going to leave a lot of Montreal Fans crying

That's realistic on this market.
Not a snowballs chance in Sunrise Zito makes the above trade

Ken Holland wouldnt trade keith because of all the intangibles and he wasnt going to get him for 'free" so why give him away for 'free'

If you got a 2nd alone for Chiarot I'd be slightly shocked.

As much as I’d love to have Gallagher, the one untouchable Oiler prospect might be Holloway.
As for Allen this is nothing more than a lateral move, it doesn’t solve the Oilers problems.
Also, Oilers have no cap space so no retention equals no trade.

Oilers decline.

My favorite is when ppl on here say Chiarot sucks because he's slow. He's nearly bloody 6'4 and pushing 240lbs ffs. And if he were THAT slow like everyone on here claims that he is, he would be getting exposed left right and center on 3 on 3 OT, and yet he actually holds his own very well.

Exactly, plus he literally out raced both Backlund and Anderson to net the OT winner vs the Flames tonight. He may not be the fastest skater but he has league average speed.

Allen is signed past this season at a much smaller cap hit than Koskinen whos a UFA. Allen is a perfect placeholder next season for Skinner. In no way is it a lateral move. Allen for Koskinen is a nice cushion going forward and saves money this season.

I agree, Holloway should be untouchable but we are talking about Ken Holland whom has probably been ringing Jim Nill's phone off the hook trying to give away multiple picks for Luke Glendening. Holland always overpays for intangibles

You'd better hope that your Oilers don't go for the Gallagher Kool-Aid.

Oilers don't have money for Gallagher and even if they did, they'd be better off using it resigning Kane

You're saying Gallagher isnt an asset? He drove the hottest goalie, outside Igor, crazy last night! The Oilers would be foolish not to go all in with McDrai's best years. They already dived in on EKane.

I'm saying that Gallagher would be a bad addition for free. As your fellow Oiler adherent @Cbzblaze says, his cap hit would preclude much more beneficial moves, plus there's the cost of acquiring him and the $34 million cost in real money over the next five years. Trading away your best shot at an ELC top-6 forward for Gallagher would be just about the worst move I can imagine Edmonton making. But be my guest -- you guys are my two crummy local teams' direct competitor!

I have never said he sucks . I just think there are enough teams selling that no there out and too few (with any cap room) that the returns aren't going to be nearly as good as last year for anybody. Chairot specifically I honestly think it's a 2&5ot6 if he were right handed maybe a 1 .

Elaborate. Literally no player comes to Edmonton unless its with baggage like EKane. You cant simply not add because its not optimum when McDrai are in their primes. Thats not the real world

It has absolutely nothing to do with wanting to add a piece to win. There is this thing in the NHL called a cap. The Oilers will not be able to resign EKane next year, because of the cap. Almost all of Koskinen's 4.5 coming off the books is going towards Nurse's raise that kicks in next year. Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, Bouchard, McLeod are all getting raises next year. This team will have a hard time getting a real goalie for next year. They can't afford to add another 5 million dollar winger.

Your deal is addressing the least worrisome aspect of the roster while simultaneously adding to the teams cap problems. For the oilers to become serious contenders, they need contributions from their cheap, young players.
Like someone said above, Gallagher could be offered for free and the oilers would still decline that deal.

This team is heartless. Not adding a guy like Gallagher isnt what they need?! You have no clue
