Go from having no puck moving d for years and years finally get a couple and first thing on to do list is trade the one that lead all d in points just last year and talk of possibly benching Bouchard. Is the goal to defend really well but stay in own zone because can’t advance the puck? Nothing wrong with having two solid puck movers makes having two pp units much easier. If looking at adding a veteran d to toughen it up a bit why not look at the left side and have Niemelianen as an extra? Russell is at best a 7th d his health has been far too questionable to expect playing a consistent role unfortunately. I’m high on add Braun for depth but not as a replacement

Your best case scenario is one of Bouchard/Barrie at 3RD. Still need a couple offensively minded guys in the line-up and one of those guys on PP1.

Sabres decline easily
No interest in Barrie
He’s not the right partner for Dahlin or Power,
and he’d be an expensive waste on pair3

Decent player, but bad for for us

Isles easily decline. Varlamov is worth a 1st, and they shouldn't consider moving Mayfield for less than the same because he's still valuable on the team next year. Giving up a single 1st, Mike Smith (who you need to move to avoid having a 3 headed goalie next season), and a non-prospect like Lagesson is nowhere near the value the Islanders want.
