How Minnesota can survive caphell

Created by: Connor_McJesus_97
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 4, 2022
Published: Mar. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
a 1st center added. Zadina can realize his potential with a fresh start and will through the reminder of these 3 years be on a good deal. Fiala could honestly ask for 8 or 9 mil so keeping him then can't realistically happen. Detroit gets more scoring depth and can afford him. Of course Minnesota gets a 1st aswell. Worth it I think. Defense is weakend but still Nutivaara is really decent and can still be somewhat reliable.

Should Minnesota trade Dumba? Should they sign a big time UFA like Trocheck? Should they trade Fiala for someone cheaper if he demands 7m+?

Minny needs a few more ELC players that's it. the buyout $ amount drops after 3 more years. so the hunt will be on for elc rookies and past their prime 750k vets.

Rather spend 7 million on Kadri as a top center.

Edm can't afford Dumba, remember the Nurse pay raise kicks in next year. Maybe Dumba to Toronto for Nylander? If the Leafs fail in the playoffs again and decide to move one of their top 4 forwards to fill their weakness. Maybe Nylander can try playing center again.

I can see trading Eriksson to keep Fiala.

Yea I’d rather drop torches and keep fiala.

Kahkonnen is signed a little cheaper like 2.5m and wallstest is signed, then skip trochek and keep fiala. That seems more likely to me.

Yzerman isn't giving up a 1st round pick for a winger, Yzerman has basically said that he'd move the 1st for a 2C like Horvat or a top 4 LD. We don't need Fiala Jonatan Berggren can easily replace Filip Zadina.

So... Minnesota can't extend Fiala because he's gonna want 7M but signing Trochek to that exact amount is all good? How tf does that work?

I like fiala but giving up the 1st and zadina hurts. Depends on the contract I guess. If he wants a ton I'm not doing that. We have more pressing needs I'd rather throw money at.

There is no way Minnesota would ever deal Joel to keep Fiala. There's a reason JEE got the long term deal last year and not Fiala. And that's not to say that that he's far better or anything, but Fiala is most definitely the odd man out if comes down to those two which would never happen anyways

While I think this is close in terms of value, I don't know if Detroit is ready to make a move like this. I think Fiala will be end up in the ~$7.5M AAV range, but he allegedly was asking for "Kaprizov money" last offseason.

I think you nailed the Talbot piece. I do not think he stays and the Wild can sign KK as their stop gap for Wallstedt. KK has really bounced back. I look at Fiala and Dumba and what we could get for them. Fiala is harder to replace but will cost more, whereas Dumba may take a team deal to play with Brodin. If we trade Fiala, I want to trade him on a extension so we get max value for him. I really like NJ as a trade partner as they have pieces we are looking to fill. They are also in a great place to add a goal scorer like Fiala to pair with Hughes/Hischier. I would really like a prospect like Luke Hughes as the main piece coming back. We have a lot invested in the back end so a few years of cost control would be helpful!

Fiala would be real nice with the wingers Detroit has and no LDs under 30 Fiala is a luxury Detroit can't afford right now.

Devils aren’t going to trade Luke Hughes for Fiala. It would be more like Zacha or Boqvist and a 2nd round pick.

Wild wouldn't accept that trade. The production those two have is no where near the production Fiala has had. It doesn't start the convo at all. Fiala isn't even in his prime yet. Do Devil fans not realize he wants a long term deal and the Wild haven't given it to him yet? A "B tier" prospect and a 2nd doesn't land you a star. If Mercer or Hughes isn't in the convo, I think BG hangs up.

Good. Mercer and Hughes will both be a lot better than Fiala.

Hughes, absolutely. He's a 1C all day everyday and twice on Sunday.

Mercer is a stretch, though. His expected ceiling is about what Fiala's is. Which is a elite top line gamebreaking playdriver, same as Fiala. Your being biased if you say otherwise.

Fiala is a 70+ point producing 1st line winger. Which is exactly what pro-scouts see Mercer hitting once he hits his prime as well.

Finally, Fiala is a top 5 possession player in the league. And has been for the last three years. If Mercer gets close to that I'd be surprised.

I'm talking about Luke Hughes not Jack. No where on this planet would Fitz trade Jack for Fiala! Haha. It's Luke or Mercer for Fiala not both but one of them. Seeing our current play over the past few weeks, I think a trade of Luke Hughes plus a second for Fiala on an extension for you guys is what would get it done.

Devils aren’t trading Mercer or either Hughes.
My advice to Wild fans - keep expectations in check.

Fiala’s cost would be no more than Reinhart, Buchnevich, Arvidsson, etc.

Reinhart at his current PPG would have gotten more then he did back then, if he were moved now.

Same with Buchnevich.

Fiala, like them, has kept pace with them in terms of PPG. He's at a higher PPG now then they were at when they were moved. He's going to cost a fair bit more then what they got last off-season.

What I think you're focusing too much on is where all three players were at last year, and not enough on where they're at this year. That makes a huge difference.

What would Reinhart and Buchnevich get in return in terms of value now as RFA's this year as opposed to last year is the key question. Not for what they got in return last year when they were on lesser PPG's.

Last year:
Reinhart- .75 PPG
Buchnevich- .76 PPG
Fiala- .64 PPG

This year:
Reinhart- 1.00 PPG
Buchnevich- .98 PPG
Fiala- .91 PPG

That's roughly a .30 PPG increase by all three players. That's a massive jump in scoring, and value, by all accounts.

They're absolutely comparable's, but don't compare them to last year's value. Compare them to what their current value should be. Which should be higher, even as RFA's.

What that value should be, is open to debate. But Fiala should absolutely get more then what they got last year.

Oilers traded Smith and Kassian away here so they should be able to cope with dumba with Barrie getting sent away
