I agree.

Detroit has no LHD under contract next season. And with what D-man are getting paid nowadays. Especially ones in their prime. Matheson’s contract is looking better and better.

Pens need to move one of Matheson/Pettersson not because they are not valuable and not wanted. It’s nice having Dumoulin plus two 2nd pairing LHD in their prime. It’s just tough to pay three LHD 4M plus.

Especially when your top prospect, PO-J is NHL ready, on an EL deal, and more than capable of playing 3rd pairing minutes.

Matheson is an offensive D-man Super fast, with consistent offensive numbers. People need to look at his stats.

7 goals and 14 assists so far this season. Not even his best year and actually just the norm for him. Top 20 in D-man scoring in the NHL this year.

And playing much better 200 foot game this season too. He “hits” and blocks a lot of shots as well. Plays 17-20 minutes a night on a winning/play-off team.

Detroit needs wings too. Giving them a 25 year old top 6 RW, mid 6 at worst in Kappy would be more than enough to take on a 2nd pairing LHD in his prime.

Detroit will definitely take Pettersson.

The Pens need cap space to sign all 3 Geno, Letang, Rust.

The only way to do that is to move out one of Matheson/Pettersson. And adding Kappy in the deal for a team to take on Matheson and his contract is more than enough.

I would be happy to move Kappy/Matheson together and just get back a mid round pick or prospect. The cap space alone is worth it.

7 goals. For a D-man. Not one D-man on Detroit has more than 5 goals. He’s top 20 in the NHL in goals for D-man. An offensive D-man.

Plus look at his stats from years prior. That’s just the norm. Plus look at his hits and blocked shots. And not just from this season. From his career. He’s been doing it almost every year.

Yep, I’m just giving u my two cents. Everyone under rates him and doesnt realize or has never looked at his stats. Either Pettersson or Matheson would work for me. Both more than capable 2nd pairing LHD on a play-off team. Playing 17-20 minutes a night.

That's exactly what Detroit needs at LD.

And like I said, Pens need to move one of Matheson/Pettersson not because they are not valuable and not wanted. You can’t be paying three LHD 4M plus with something called the salary cap.

Especially with the UFA’s Pens need to sign next offseason. And their top prospect a LHD, NHL ready and on a EL deal.

I wish they could keep both Pettersson and Matheson. It’s why we are in 1st or 2nd place all year. Cause our defense.

Detroit would be lucky to have either.

Both better than Leddy, Staal and DeKeyser. Good luck. Looks like a long wait.

It's not luck. It's a plan and it's working thanks. Long wait? That's just wishful thinking on your part. LOL

Not all all. Your top pairing LHD has 1 goal and 12 points in 50 games..lol.

Cool thing?? A rebuild?? Cause those are so easy and work out all the time.

Only like 20% of 1st round picks actually have a 5 year NHL career. And even less actually become an All-Star. And drops significantly actually the 1st round.

Keep thinking you win the draft every year and have all these great prospects that are gonna come to fruition. It’s all subjective.

I’ll take actually take winning games and making the play-offs every year. And take the Pens two 2nd pairing LHD’s that actually produce on a winning/play-off team. Actually concrete things.
