Arizona is in a very unusual position. They have fewer than a dozen actual NHLers under contract for next season, so prying their best player (never mind Schmaltz's seven-point night) away from them is going to require an overpay -- maybe almost an Eichel-like return, because if you think that they're terrible now, imagine how bad they're going to be WITHOUT Jakob Chychrun.

I would offer the Coyotes Lehkonen, Romanov, an A prospect (probably Guhle, but not Caufield) and your 2023 first.

understandable, but shouldn't be a price habs pay. Guhle is looking like a defensive beast RN, Romanov is still in growth, but performing well. 2023 first could be Bedard.

I am not really sure why either team would do this. Seattle isn’t going to trade Gourde, as he is one of their best centers, and he brings a lot of playoff experience to the team. The Kraken would be downgrading from Gourde to Evans, but upgrading from Fleury to Savard, but I don’t think the difference would just be a second round pick. Seattle just isn’t in a position to consider trading Gourde.

Moving on to the Arizona trade, at this point, it likely takes more than an Eichel like return to pry Chychrun away. Chychrun is one of 3 established NHLers not on an ELC who are signed for 3+ years, which means that Chychrun would be a part of their throughout most of the Coyotes rebuild. Plus, right now, with the Yotes going to play at ASU for the next couple of seasons, they will have a harder time drawing free agents in than Buffalo. So keeping their roster players who have term on their contracts (Keller, Shmaltz, and Chychrun) should be top priority for the Yotes.

I don’t really like either of these trades for Habs. Prospect wise, our left side D is our strongest so I don’t like the idea of trading for Chychurn. Don’t get me wrong, he’s better than anyone we have currently but if we are giving up the much, I would rather it to be at a place of weakness.

We are likely going to get a Center at this draft is the reason I don’t like the other trade. We have Suzuki, Dvorak, and whoever we draft. Do we need another 5+ million dollar contract and we are giving up a right side d that we desperately need if Petry gets traded

Who has said that? Where did you find any evidence of this? I get not being in the playoffs would make anyone not happy, but it would happen eventually that he won’t be in the playoffs.

Habs decline. They wont trade away their first round pick in 2023 unless its lottery protected.
