No Giroux but the Bottom Six is Waaaaay Better

Description
This is a riff on my previous AGM with the Isles but I looked at the roster and thought, "Still need to be better at FO's." So we're making a deal with Seattle to address that. I think it's highly unlikely Joe would have this much roster turnover but this is a much better roster overall. Again, this assumes Byram is ready to play by the TDL.

You are still cursed with Jackass Johnson. You wont win a Stanley Cup with him. Please let him never win a cup.

Purely depth at this point and they can call up MacDonald and Barron over him (even if they won't). Believe me, as an Avs fan, I don't like seeing him on the ice and cringe at the thought of him as a regular in the playoffs.

Avs wouldn’t do either of these IMO.

Moving Girard off the blue line leaves a big hole. Even if Byram returns, you probably want a larger sample size of good health before you rely on him. Otherwise, you end up with MacDermid playing in the playoffs.

Beauvillier is a fine player, but you have him playing 3rd line wing minutes and probably 2nd unit PP. Mayfield doesn’t move the needle for me on D either. Not worth the price of losing a #3D, bottom 6 center, top(ish) prospect on an ELC, and a 2nd. Would rather hold on to those assets for a more noticeable upgrade.

I don’t think Jarnkrok is enough of an upgrade over Jost to justify losing out on Bowers, a 5th, and an extra year of Jost + his RFA rights.

I doubt the Avs move Girard, even with his struggles; they'll just hope he works through it by the playoffs. But they do have MacDonald and Barron who are better options than JJ and, obviously, MacDermid.

Here's the deal on Kaut: he's on the last year of his waiver eligibility and the Avs clearly do not want to use him; might as well use him to get something better. And Newhook needs better wings to play with; Beau provides that as well as the remaining two years on his deal to replace Bura when he bolts in FA.

Bowers is a non-entity with the Avs, even less than Kaut. Jost is going nowhere and Jarnkrok is most definitely an upgrade in terms of production and FO%. To me, it's worth giving up that extra year of RFA for a guy like Jarnkrok in a year when the Avs should be doing everything possible to win a Cup.

My issue isn’t Kaut/Bowers being part of a package. I bet one or both of them gets swapped for another prospect this TDL or this offseason. The issue is giving up your cost controlled #3 D right before a playoff run. A Girard trade would be an off-season move, if ever.

I am disappointed by Jost, but I don’t think Jarnkrok is an upgrade. FO% is an overvalued metric and you could probably get the player or someone similar for less.

Like I said, I doubt Girard gets moved in-season. It would be risky to rely on Byram coming back and staying healthy.

I have to disagree on Jarnkrok - he is a clear upgrade over Jost. And, yes, FO% is a little overrated until it isn't. Jost lost a faceoff last night that immediately turned into a PP goal. You might be able to find someone along the same lines for less but Jarkrok provides more scoring and is easily as good or better than Jost defensively. What other players similar to Jarnkrok are you thinking of?

And that trade doesn’t happen without Girard.

Lehkonen, Copp, Stastny could be viable. Bottom 6 guys are a dime a dozen

No, it doesn't happen without him.

Lehkonen, Stastny and Copp would cost at least as much as this deal for Jarnkrok.
