Can the Leafs afford to lose any of the space they're garnering from the expiration of the Kessel buyout to a Mrazek buyout? Cash-wise I know it's not a problem but there are a LOT of 2022-23 AGMs that run within spitting distance of the cap ceiling.

Korpisalo makes sense as an upgrade in the sense that he at least knows the approximate GPS location of his crease and net and the ease at which Columbus can accommodate the Mrazek buyout. Yes, it's change for the sake of change. All Korpisalo should cost is a 4th round pick and dumping Mrazek a 2nd round pick. It's a total loss from a business perspective but addition via subtraction can just as easily set the net straight. We know that draft picks mean nothing to today's Leafs.

I don't subscribe to Fleury being an option: I think he's one of those players, especially after the Vegas situation, has enough tenure to dictate whether or not he's moved at the deadline. I think Kallgren gets the outdoor game but the "viable" options right now are Forsberg, Georgiev, Jones, Korpisalo, and Khudobin. I fully believe that of those 5 names, only three of those teams can afford to take Mrazek back, and if you're in the realm of 2 or 3 trades to address one position then you've lost the plot.

That's just it, I'd rather the Leafs just buy him out than waste picks/prospects on trading him. And it's not that I dislike Allen, outside of this year he has been pretty consistent.

I agree, he's been on the worst team in league this year, and putting up okay numbers. With st. Luis he's been great. IMO:
Allen = 2nd + 3rd
Mrazek = 3rd to dump.
3rd + 3rd = hirvonen

I have this nagging feeling that we're going to see smaller amount of Russian prospects get drafted in the next draft(s), and the most skilled ones are going to be drafted much later in the draft. Simply because there's no guarantee US as a nation is willing to issue visas for these players as part of the sanctions caused by the war in Ukraine.

I mean if I was a GM I'd have to seriously consider if I'd ever be willing to draft players that might be unable to play for me in the foreseeable future.

I could be wrong though. But given that the sanctions get tougher and tougher almost on a daily basis, I think at some point they will start affecting athletes representing Russia as well.

As for the Russians already playing in NHL - I think we're going to see more of them applying for US citizenship now. That way they wouldn't have to worry about those visas.

Yup, will be interesting to see what happens. Glad I am not in Kyle's shoes.
