Interesting idea

Description
Ken Weibe put out this idea on last nights Kenny and Renny post game show.

The idea was to trade Mark Scheifele and Re-sign Andrew Copp as his replacement.

I don't know how much I like this idea but I thought it was interesting.

I don't think that is exactly what we would get back but tried to make the Scheifele trade more realistic. The idea with the defence is that they they give each pair equal time.

What do you think?

Wow.... I really don't hate it. Plus I think Perfetti could play the middle soon.
I would really like Schneider

Schneider is a no-go from the Rangers. You can add Lundkvist + another pick or another prospect to make it work.

I like Scheifele, but I think that's too much. On the surface, it'd be a solid addition for them, but I think you just run into way too many cap issues down the road, especially if it's stays flat this year. I also can't see them moving Schneider. Lundkvist, sure, but I can't see Schneider being moved. Too good, too cheap, fills that hole for 3 years on an ELC for a soon to be cap strapped team.

The Jets are in real trouble if they plan on Copp as a full time 2C.

Kravstov and Chytil would need to be dropped from the Scheifele trade and replaced with something that has value and that Winnipeg needs.

Imo would prefer to add another pick and keep chytil but I just enjoy his game I think he could be really good especially if rangers don't keep strome and he gets a chance on 2c

Yeah, I mean, even if he ends up sticking as a 3C, that's not a bad thing...guy has upside for sure.

if im the rangers any deal including schneider is probably a no go. hes too valuable too them right now and his ceiling seems like its going to be real high. not a player you want to give up on early on.

Less than zero interest in Kratsov… switch him with Barron.

I agree with that. I was going to make it Schneider Laf and a 1st but I know that it would make rangers fans even more mad.

Yeah, almost all fans dream about getting high end players from another team while giving up only players they don't care about from their team.

I still don't understand why he is untouchable. You have fox who is a top RHD in the league and Trouba who is probably playing the best hockey of his career and is under contract for a while. The right side is full in NY. To get a good player it is going to be quality over quantity.

because if you look at their contract situation... theyve got 10m next year with a roster size of 17. add in they have no right wingers, and chytil as 2c. cant send all of your best assets when you have limited money going forward. not enough money going out vs coming in, they are kind of stuck because of trouba.

If you can't understand why he'd be untouchable then there is no reason you should want him. Also you've obviously never watched lundkvist play

We don't need Lundkvist because we are looking for a big RHD not another small d man

The same reason you demand him in the trade is the reasons he is untouchable. Rangers traded up in the draft to get him and he is EVERYTHING Drury covets in a player. He is Trouba's replacement when his NMC burns off. ZERO chance he gets traded.

Rangers will probably end up moving Trouba when his trade protection ends (even though he's having a good season) and view Schneider as his replacement (it's no coincidence that Schneider's contract is up when Trouba's protection ends in 24-25).

Scheifele isn't a top 10-15 center in the league rn. His defensive play is horrid. You could easily argue that McDavid, Matthews, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Bergeron, Crosby, Barkov, Stamkos, Point, Tavares, Kopitar, Aho, Lindholm, O'Reilly, Zibanejad, Eichel and Malkin are have a better impact than him given their all around performance (some of these being elite defensively while maintaining a good offensive game). You could also players like Kadri, JT Miller, Larkin are outplaying him this year as well. I actually looked up and of all the centers listed in the top 30 of points per game, Scheifele is the only one with a +/- worse than -11, and he's -21 on the season. Obviously it's not the most fair stat but it goes to prove my point about his two way game.

I think slightly less than the Eichel return would be "best case scenario" for WPG, and that is with a bidding war. Middle six forward with team control, good prospect, and a 1st.

Lundkvist is a very good prospect -- I will say that he definitely needed some adjustment time to the ice size but he didn't look lost in NHL (especially with Nemeth as his partner, choose a worse player to be hampered with) and now has turned his bad AHL start (1 point in first 9 games) around the past two weeks (10 points in last 11 games).

Middle six players are something the rangers don't really have in spades rn, but they do have good young players projected to be solid middle sixers like:
Chytil - still only 22 with over 200 nhl games played, former 1st rounder that has the ability to drive play (avg of +4.1 rel CF%). Proved last year he didn't belong in the AHL. Probably better suited to play wing than center TBH solely because his faceoff ability (his two way play is fine, perhaps if they have a winger good at faceoffs they can switch them just for faceoffs) ; and

Kravtsov - former 9th overall pick, some attitude issues, performs really well in the KHL as a 22 year old, noted playoff performer there w/ 24 points in 30 playoff games since his draft year.

They also have their first rounder this year and two second rounders in what is supposed to be a deep draft.

I get NYR fans saying no to moving Schneider, but if there’s no Schneider, then there’s no Scheifele. So stop offering trades involving him because the response will always be the same… if you want Scheifele, it’ll cost you Schneider. There is no way around it.

Lundkvust is good, but not in a Scheifele deal… for Copp, sure.

Kratsov isn’t ever going to be wanted… no interest in any player that throws a tantrum and refuses to play.
