I don’t think Pens have to add that 2nd.

You can see it on capfriendly. Literally every teams fans have posted a trade trying to acquire Kappy. If a fraction of real life NHL GMs are interested. They wouldn’t have to add.

Is Kappy in the doghouse, yes. But he is undeniably talented. He’s super fast, wicked wrist shot, a decent playermaker, plays physical enough, and a good 200 foot player. It’s why the Pens traded a 15th overall pick and a “B”/“B-“ prospect for him just a year and a half ago.

He’s a .5 -.75 PPG player even playing poorly. That’s a good “floor”. Let him get hot for acouple weeks and he’s a 20 goal scorer again. A 20 goal scorer “ceiling”.

I added the 2nd due to Garlands cost control over the next 4-5 years. Because I agree with you that Kap + a 2nd for Garland is an overpay, I had VAN sending a 3rd back in return. I'm throwing this idea out because 1) VAN wants cap flexibility and this can help provide that. 2) PIT may/may not have a long-term plan for Kap, and if not, Garland could slot in seamlessly.

Canucks decline the NYR and Pittsburgh trades. They won’t trade Miller unless it’s a big overpay. And they accept the NJ trade if Severson signs an extension
remowilliams liked this.
