Because Edmonton said they’ll give a 1st Round Pick

yes but it's also 3 plus drafts from now? Chabot is the clear better player, Nurse loses value because of his contract, Turris is a cap dump

I don’t see the Sabres wanting Smith
Or being interested in that prospect
Maybe if u made the pick better?

Yeah that’s what I thought but they do need a veteran goalie for nexts year to help develop UkKo-Pekka Luukkonen their goalie of the future…Smith possibly will be put on LTIR to rest and maybe play end of the year, let Anderson and whoever is backing him up right now. Yeah I agree like a 4th Round Pick or 3rd Round Pick?

The gap between the value in Chabot's contract vs Nurse's is wider than a 1st. There's certainly room for a discussion around who is better player, I still think Chabot is the better of the two, and at 8mil vs 9.25 it stops being even slightly close as to which you'd rather have.

It's true the Sabres could use some good veteran goaltending but that's not what Edmonton or Toronto keeps trying to trade us - why do you think the Sabres want goaltenders that have worse save percentages and are more expensive than the subpar goaltenders we have now?

Take out Comtois, Barrie and shore

Ducks aren’t trading Comtois at his lowest value

We don’t need or want Barrie and we already had shore we don’t need another 4th liner

We do need a Vet goalie, i agree
Just can’t see Smith being the guy they’d target
Maybe if they miss out on better guys they’d come back to the idea as a last resort?

Chabot is 25 and has 6 years left @ $8M AAV; Nurse is 27 and next year starts an 8 year deal @ $9.25M. I think there's an argument to be made as to whose the better player on the ice, but both of them are heavy-minute #1 defensemen. When it's that close on the ice, you gotta look at the off ice stuff to figure out the value - and Edmonton is getting the younger player with the lower cap hit and less term.

So Edmonton is getting better value at the top of the trade, does the rest of what they offer add up? Well, they're giving away a cap dump (Kyle Turris has spent half the season buried in the AHL so please don't try and argue otherwise), throwing in a guy that can't play in Canada and is coming off myocarditis in Archibald, and throwing in a 1st two years in the future. Ottawa, meanwhile, is throwing in Anton Forsberg as well? It's gotta be a hard pass for the Sens - they're giving up 2 of the best 3 players in the trade, getting a pick that doesn't help them til 2024 at earliest, and doing Edmonton a favor - the rest of these deals might not work if they don't offload Turris' contract. Edmonton adds, and adds something nice, to make this happen.

I was so wrapped up in that lopsided Ottawa trade I missed the rest

-I'll defer to Ducks fans on the Manson-Barrie trade; I see the logic but personally think that Edmonton has to add more if they want Comtois.

-Lagesson is 26 and a total non-prospect; why are the Isles adding a 5th to Chara to get him? Take out the pick and it's a maybe, but probably not.

-Siikanen isn't really a prospect, so it's hard to see him adding value to this deal. I could maybe see Buffalo doing it if you gave them a 4th and they sent back a 7th(or nothing) - after all, they're doing you a favor in getting Mike Smith off your books for 2022-23, too

-Sceviour's a 32 year old pending UFA with no value to the Flyers; Tullio and a 1st are nice value back for Risto though. I could only see them taking Ceci if that's someone that they want to be part of their future, though - he's 28, and has 3 years left at $3.25M. I feel like they're more likely to offer retention to make the dollars work - throw in a 4th, get 50% retention on both, and keep Ceci, and the cap should work.

If Ottawa trades Chabot to Edmonton, it's in a package for McDavid or Draisaitl.

Not many players in this league I'd consider trading Chabot for.
