This deal saves Melnyk $9M in cash and he potentially upgrades at two positions (based on past 3 years of play). No chance this happens at all, but a rebuilding team might take it if Ottawa adds some picks.

Ok maybe I got a bit greedy here but Smith and Kassian are pure cap dumps and Murray has proven (when healthy, which I know is a big IF) to be a good goalie again even behind Ottawas terrible defence. Watson is a nice little kicker to fill out your botom six/replace a Kassian like player. So Ottawa takes on 11.8 mill in cap over three years and Edmonton takes on 14 mill in cap hit over the same time span and gets the better players, so yes EDM would have to throw in some picks.

Dumping Monahan is definitely worth Dube when you are adding Paul and Sanford. for your playoff push. Paul with Sutter is a match ade in heaven

LOL. Have you seen Murray play recently? He's lost his last 6 starts, he's 5.01 GAA and .836 sv% in his past 4. Yeah, I've been paying attention.

i mean sure but:

A. He has a NMC
B: You never see salary dumps with players. almost always picks. And Flames better off just going to Arizona and dumping a 2nd and 3rd for him

Im gonna say it. I dont hate the deal for Calgary. Id be willing to do without the 3rd so long as Paul is a sign and trade to Calgary. Dube has been lackluster this year and Calgary needs to move Monahan to keep the the intact this offseason.

I dont make these moves at the deadline but definitely get it done in the offseason.
