Just curious, how much do you think Bunting will cost if he keeps up this pace?

I don't know...if he keeps up this pace next year, Edmonton probably gives him the Hyman contract tears of joy

any chance he signs a long-term deal. 3.5aav x 8 years?

leafs get a good salary deal, Bunting has security.

He's on pace for around 65 points. If he continues to produce those numbers next year as well, you can look at Zach Hyman as a pretty decent comparable salary wise.

Bunting will be younger than Hyman was when he signed with the Oilers and plays a similar top six LW role.

65+ points gets you 5+ million dollars in the NHL with relative ease these days.

I think at most Verhaeghe money as both guys basically came out of the same situation lul

Also have similar totals and got to where they were by playing with Elite Talent.

But if Dubas plays his cards right he could get Bunting to sign a Duclair extension

To soon to tell.

Like we have seen players time and time again have a monster season then the following year disappear or be a shell of what fans saw the previous year.

But hey even if he only gets 30 points next year who cares. As then the extension comes cheaper for us

I hope the leafs don't offer him 8 years. 8 Year deals are risky, even for all star players because a sudden injury or change of line mates can make a really big difference. I've been happily surprised by how effective Bunting has been with M&M but there's no guarantee he'll produce in the later years. Best scenario I could see is maybe $4mx5 years, but that would be him leaving money on the table (assuming he keeps up with this point pace of course). Bunting would have to choose to stay because he wants to play with the talent and Dubas gives him 5 years for some security. Even then I think there would be considerable risk on the Leafs side. Although I'd be happy if he continues to grow into marchand level skill and I completely eat my words.
