Alot to give up, but not sure COL does it.

You are never going to get a Marner for a Marner, and in 22-23 with Matthews/Nylander expiring and 2 of your top 4 dmen hitting UFA, I think if you deal a Marner, it will be for multiple players who can collectively make the team better. Say Koneckny and Sanheim for example, a top 6 forward and top 4 dmen making collectively the same as Marner.

Even in the lineup above, its a thin club, with no cap space and over reliant on guys like Kase, Kuzmenko, Simmonds who are risky, or "never-were" types like Anderson.

The idea that if Leafs tank out in 1st round again, and you keep 90% of the team together?

Getting multiple pieces helps with team depth, and then you have easily moveable parts, as opposed to taking on a singular hard to move/adjust salary like a 9mil Makar.

Best be prepared for the best piece moved in a Marner trade to be Marner himself rather than throwing in a bunch of stuff for a player a team would be crazy to trade. It's not a trade Toronto will win.

You probably should delete this before the people in Mountain Time wake up.

ya we don't blame them. if the leafs choke again it makes sense to move marner. it also makes sense to get the best dman or goalie as that's where they clearly need an upgrade. obviously the avs don't do this as the can't afford marner and he's not a necessity.

If you lose again it’s because of your goaltenders. Don’t bring them back

you have to offer good assets to get a franchise, potential generational Dman in Makar

A Nylander - Girard swap is far more likely than a Marner - Makar one.

Alright, this trade is ridiculous and would never happen.

No good assets here? Get real. Makar is a generational defenseman, but let's not pretend there's scraps going back to COL here.

Let’s not pretend COL even considers doing this. Wth would COL consider a generational d swap for a more expensive winger and parts?

Evidently you didn't read the part of most post that said the trade is ridiculous and would never happen.

Marner and futures isnt good assets for the avs, Marner wouldnt even be the Avs top RW behind Mikko. thats the point

My favorite part is them trying to sneak Justin Holl into the Avs trade like no one will notice.

Avs are adding nearly $4M in salary, giving away the best/most valuable player in the deal, and get two 1sts that will be in the 20-25 range, and two prospects that are a couple years away while the team is in "win-now" mode. Not trying to say the assets going back are bad or anything, just that they don't line up with what the Avs are doing in any way.

Really if they tank it in the 1st round, there will be a few changes. Im not talking about huge turnover, but losing 3 salaries. Heres what I'd do:

1. Mrazek gone, 3.8mil for a backup is too much, especially as Mrazek has always been unreliable (except CAR).
2. Re-sign Campbell for less than 5mil and get a cheap vet backup
3. Bring 2 of Robertson, Steeves, Abramov up
4. Stop the yo-yo with Sandin
5. Trade Marner and Liljegren to PHI for Koneckny and Sanheim and Morgan Frost (for example) (or SEA for Gourde and Soucy and Lauzon)
6. Trade Muzzin, return isn;t important, but its 5.6mil cap hit for a player who's getting old, and need a bit more speed and offense from blueline.
7. Sign a 2RD/3RD in UFA: Theres some good ones in the mid range like Manson, Miller, Subban, Butcher, Klingberg, Ristolinen, Zadorov/Strahlman, Gudbranson
8. Figure out if you can get a better two way 3C than Kerfoot

bunting-matthews-koneckny
robertson-tavares-nylander
engvall/frost-kerfoot/?-Kase
frost/steeves-Kampf-simmonds

Reilly-Brodie
Sanheim- UFA
Sandin-Holl

The assets are fine, it's just really difficult to acquire a franchise dman..
